I'm currently on a 1 year retirement permit and will be visiting the U.K. to see family for three weeks in September. I will be getting the re-entry permit tomorrow but this will mean I will only have a couple of blank pages left on my passport so I was considering the fast-track renewal service once I'm there.

However, looking at the renewal booklet issued by the passport office it appears that you can only use the fast-track service for passports that are due to expire. My problem is that although I have used up my passport (mostly with full page visas) it doesn't actually expire until 2027.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Do the passport office consider a full passport as having expired and therefore available for replacement?  I want to avoid the Thailand method of renewal if I can because I live up country.

Thank you.

But it does say this on the website, which is confusing me.

I think it's probably o.k. I renewed alright in 2016 but I only had a few months left on my old passport then. No matter, I can always come back and renew if fast-track isn't available.

Thank you.

I see no reason for them not to it. If the passport is almost full it is not really a useable one.

Be sure to get a 50 page passport so it will last longer than the one you have now did.

I certainly will. I want to do a bit more travelling in Asia now.

Cheers
