Thai Visa denied after visa run to cambodia at the same day

hello guys,

i want to share with u what happen to me 2 days ago at my visa run to Cambodia.

i will start with the details : i have a multi entrance visa  - that i need to go outside Thailand every 3 month .

as usual i was planing to do it by crossing the border to Cambodia by land as i did many times before .
when i did it this time - some people who work at the transport company told me that if i want to go out and come back at the same day - the thai officers will not let me in..
i didn't believed them at first - but then i talk with 2 people that got denied at the border when they try to go back.
so before i stamp my Cambodian visa at the border - i went back to the thai officers to ask what will happen if ill try to go and come back in the same day.
i went to the supervisor and she told me i wont be able to come back at the same day - apparently they have a new rule that force u to stay 1 night at cambodia...
i try to explain her that i have to come back at the same day and i have a thai M visa - i also had a fly ticket from bkk to my country that is scheduled for October , yet she told me it wont be possible .
but she told me the only way to come back in the same day is if i take a flight to bkk.... which means i need to take a taxi to Siam Reap which is 200km from the border - and then buy a flight ticket.

i want to add something - at the border i met a french guy that have a O visa (he married a thai women) and he was denied also from coming back - and hes wife and their baby was waiting him in the car on the thai side...

so i had no choice but to take a taxi to siam reap airport - which i did , because i didn't want to stay the night in this shitty place .
i paid 800 baht for the taxi - about 3 hours drive and i buy a ticket online from air Asia for 4800 baht.
when i got to the check in the airport , they told me they have a Cambodian Law - that force u to stay at least 24 hours in Cambodia after u enter it  ( !!!!!!! )

at that point i just wanted to kill everyone around me... i was super angry.
seems like both sides are playing tricks on tourist now..
so i asked what should i do now... and the guy send me to another guy that "maybe he can help u"
so that guy pretty simply told me - if u want to leave today, i know a guy....but u need to pay him 50$ if u want to go on your plane... (!!!!)
so i had no choice but to pay the officer a bribe  - because if i wont go on my flight , im losing my ticket ..

so i wanted to share my story with all the people here so they wont make the same mistake as me and come prepared .
i couldn't find any information on this new rules anywhere i looked  - so ill be happy if someone here can explain me what exactly are the new rules now

thank u.

  • Why is the title "Thai Visa denied"? You were not allowed to leave Cambodia, had nothing to do with the Thai Visa

  • At one time it was on the e-visa site. It can be found on many travel sites. I have searched for info about it online but trying to find anything official on Cambodia government sites is almost imposs

the stay one night rule is correct and has been like that for sometime. it's usually waived for a couple of hundred baht.  it had nothing to do with the visa you have.

normally the thais are fine to let you out and back in but the cambodian officers usually take the bribe to go back. usually just 200 baht or so. always safer to do a border bounce with a visa run company as they'll have all that sorted and can take out the hassle

This has been going on for some time. Lots of reports on Thai Visa. There isn't an option to directly bribe the Thai side as far as I've heard, but it seems the Cambodians have 'contacts' and for a large fee can get you back through.

The main issue is that the bosses on the Thai side don't want people with ME visas doing border runs to extend their stay.

The problem was that you were using Poipet for your border hop. There was no need to fly back to Thailand, but you did need to use a different land crossing. To ensure there is no confusion:

  • Cambodia has a rule that you must stay overnight unless you have a multiple entry business visa for Cambodia. This is easily overcome with a small bribe (perhaps 200 baht) and sometimes no bribe is even needed.
  • There is no rule by Thai immigration that you must stay overnight in Cambodia. However, Poipet is known to deny people entry for all kinds of reasons in order to set up an extortion racket. Fixers on the Cambodian side can arrange with Thai immigration to let you enter, with most of the money going into the pocket of corrupt Thai officials.

i have a multi entry visa. the last cambodia border run was the 13th july 2018 . no problem. back to pattaya the same day.

3 years i've been doing this, never had any problem.

So this “
Must stay overnight “ is about what? Getting more money out of Foreigners can be the only motive ! Thailand and Cambodia have so much in common from head of Gov to the lowest levels !

I would guess that was not done at the Poipet crossing.

It is a requirement when using a visa on arrival for Cambodia that you must stay of over night. It is a written rule for all crossings and airports other than at Phnom Penh.

Depending on place time and mood 200 to 500 baht and yes the law about 24 hours does exist.

oh. you went to Poipet. that was your only  problem then.

they don't want anyone border hopping there whatever visa or however many land crossing exempt.

Poipet have made it pretty clear they'll make it as hard as possible for anyone to border hop there.

You may have had to pay a small fee to come back same day at another border with no issues but Poipet is a law unto it self and it has been advised for a long time to just avoid the place all together if possible.

Why are these ferangs doing this .?. When you can get a retirement visa. What are they doing here. Just bumming through life i guess.

i am sure they know exactly why they are doing it. also, maybe they are not retired so why would they want a retirement visa? there's thousands of reasons for people to be here. not everyone in thailand is retired and neither is every member of this forum believe it or not. . . . .

Please show where it is written.

The young 2 Ferangs i know here who are employed by Honda legally dont know what this bouncing is either , so it must be evading the regs by doing so.Like teaching for a few bucks, just to extend stay.

there's signs on the walls at the border which the IO's will gladly point out. within the law, i have no idea but arguing over a few hundred baht just for them to turn around and say you can't go back isn't worth it to most people.

back packers have been doing it for decades and it isn't evading the regs if you stay within the regulations. not sure what the 2 people you know at Honda has to do with anything as they will most likely have extensions based on work. irrelevant

Not at Chong Chom or Choam Sa Ngam Crossing . I use them both.

At one time it was on the e-visa site. It can be found on many travel sites. I have searched for info about it online but trying to find anything official on Cambodia government sites is almost impossible.

Here is a check for a same day round trip flight to Siem Reap on this site that is based upon the IATA requirements. https://skyteam.traveldoc.aero/#input

Since it is shown on the above site it is certainly a written requirement.

There is a sign in the office at Chong Chom. The back wall of the office where the entry stamp is issued. I saw it two weeks ago.

That costs three hundred baht, in Poipet no man's land, to circumvent this Khmer 24 hrs rule.

Plenty of touts on stand by in front of casinos are always ready to help you.

Seems somewhat arbitrary!

It is a commercial site but it is used by airlines to deny boarding a flight.

This from the IATA site. https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/KH-Cambodia-passport-visa-health-travel-document-requirements.htm

i want to ask and add a few things :

at the border - when i said i asked 2 people about their visa denied -  one of the guys was from Chile , and he came to Cambodia for 2 nights from Thailand  - when he try to come back to Thailand he was denied because the thai officers want him ti have a flight back from Thailand  - i met him later that day at the airport again  - so he just took a flight back to bkk like i did...
so the 24 hours thing didn't really matter i guess - look like the only problem is the specific border in
Poipet .

i also never ask to pay any Extra money to any officer at the border , im guessing at least one person will come to me and tell me to pay a fee - but it seems no one was able to help in that situation .

so can u please explain me to which border i should go next time ?
and someone here said i should go with a visa run agency that  will 'Take Care' of everything  - any recommendations ?

visa run service depends where you live but thaivisaservice.com to daily trips to kanchanaburi from on nut BTS/Tesco car park at 4am. 2,000 all in including food. no full page visa stamp in passport and back around lunchtime.

any border should be fine in the future except poipet
