2,000 all in. the border at kanchanaburi (pu nam rom) is myanmar not cambodia and does include the day pass to cross over and back

 

they also go most days to ban laem cambodia but costs 2,300, get the cambodia full page visa and it takes longer

Last time I was in Laos was talking to this Danish Guy and I said to him You know I never understand if you get your visa application in early in the morning why you cannot get it back in the afternoon and not stay the 1  night. He said they tried it once and the Thai Gov was fine by it but the Laos Gov  was not due to the fact the motels were complaining they were losing business due to the fact the farang were not staying overnight So I guess they are using these  visa runs to make a few bucks I don't mind because I love the Beerlo In Laos So much better than Thai Beer. That is why I love it here because I can adjust to any situation

Interesting..I'm also on a multi O and usually go across a border and back on the same day. Last time the Cambodian I/O got me to change my visa form to say I was staying a week at the hotel that was next door - I was wondering what it was about.
 

There is no law that says that you have to stay in Cambodia for a day. It's a scam, plain and simple (like a lot of other rackets going on at the Cambodian land border), a scam, that because of its long standing, is considered a law.

I guess you missed my posts on page 2 proving it is certainly a written requirement.

That's what I was thinking. I know Poi Pet is a dump but I would have found a hotel room for the night and had a few cold beers & a meal and gone back in the morning.

That is correct A good hotel Laos 500-600 Baht Dont know about Cambodia

There isn't anything in the Cambodian Immigration Act, but there is definitely a legitimate rule or regulation. Fortunately that rule/regulation isn't enforced at the other crossings.

 

I would guess that it's in place specifically to stop, when they want, Thailands visitors waisting the Cambodian immigrations time with border hops that only benefit Thailand.

At other land crossings with Cambodia, the worst you are faced with is modest corruption on the Cambodian side. The problem at Poipet is that the corruption is on the Thai side, and they are demanding much larger sums (10,000 - 20,000 baht has been reported, with Cambodian fixers allowing the Thai officials, who get most of the money, to maintain plausible deniability).

The check I did was only for Siem Reap so the ifo is specific for that airport. The notice would not of appeared if it was done for Phnom Penh.

How long has this been like that?  I have made a few same day visa runs, the last one in 2015.  I was in Thailand on a visa exempt and did one run for another 30 days.  I had done two before that in oh, 2012, and 2009 as I recall.  We all were in a mini van, drover, had lunch drove back.  Are you saying that is not allowed now, or it is selectively not being allowed?

It has been the rule for many years. If you went on an organized border run the company probably handled your entry and departure on the same day.

Yes, that is exactly what I did and I know hundreds are doing routinely.   Just a few routine visa runs as it were, two out of Pattaya, one out of Bangkok that did go to Poi pet.  Had lunch in the casino and one hour later was back in the van headed back to Asoke.   One from the company that used to sit outside the Robin's Nest in Pattaya, the Bangkok run was with Bangkok buddy with that very pleasant office manager Tanya.  But if one goes by themselves they will run into issues?

That might not have been enough.  Poipet is a nightmare.  Upon arriving at the Thai-checkpoint the next day, they very well could have said (lied), as they told me, "It is the law that you must fly back to Thailand."  Maybe even an official "denied entry" input into the computer.  Then he has to cancel his exit-stamp from Cambodia - and try from somewhere else.  This "must fly in" lie is to drive people into the waiting-arms of their Western-hating comrades at the airport, where a denied-entry is even more of a problem (detention, last-minute ticket out, etc). 

The best solution (after making the mistake of using the Poipet/Aranya crossing in the first place) would have been to take a taxi from Poipet to Ban Laem, and enter there.  Anyone "stuck" in Poipet in similar circumstances should use this solution.  An even cheaper option is to take the bus from Poipet to Battambang, then a shared-taxi to the Ban Laem border-crossing - but this may involve an overnight stay in Battambang (much nicer than Poipet).

ive done a few same day crossings and visa exempt on re-entry over the years at the crossing out of chantaburi, is this no longer an option?

800 baht for a taxi to Sim Reap, wow that is super cheap. I didn't know you could hire a taxi and get to Sim Reap for 800 baht!! Amazing value.

If I had to go back to Sim Reap no problem for me. I love that place.. ?

that was after i argue about the price - that start from 1500 baht...
and during the ride - i talk with the driver that was very friendly  - and he told me that he only got 10$ out of this 800 baht...
it was a private car not a real taxi
