I am in need of a good automatic transmission workshop, that is capable of servicing an automatic gearbox. The torque converter is giving problems, and needs to be stripped down and serviced. My garage, although very good, does not have the tools, but can replace the box with a generic at a rather high cost. Anybody out there had experience with a good one? ...MM

Am advised that the only good places are in Bangkok. My repair guy ships them there for servicing if required.

You know something P...you're right!! I found that out today from enquiries at the major workshops. Even Honda, as big as they are in Chiangmai send their transmissions to Bangkok. I was quoted 45,000 baht and a month's turnaround! How's that from a company that can't even service their own cars!!

My garage has located a re-conditioned one in Bangkok for 14,000 and it will be on it's way tomorrow with any luck. Remind me to buy a manual box next time

i was doing up my 1GFE toyota v6 engine and i face the gearbox problem . is a manual to replace it only cost about 15k

45k sound kinda too expensive - another car i got which did a engine sway into a SR20De 2000cc nissan engione only cost 50k . that is workmanship plus gearbox plus ecu plus wiring plus gearbox and many more .

by providing the car and engine model maybe i can help you find one gear box .

Thank you Ta, if it was a manual box I could strip it down and do it myself, but I did say in my OP that .....The torque converter is giving problems, and needs to be stripped down and serviced and I was looking for an automatic transmission specialist. p1p has only confirmed what I thought......Nobody can do it in Chiangmai.

What car is it and what year and brand , if you want i can check for you when i visit my workshop . or give them a call

sometime is not worth repairing if it for a old engine . and a simple replacment with a second import from japan save you more money .

i run a LSD on one of my car and to repair it will cost me 5k . but to replace it would be about 5k also .

if you state the model and years of the car and prefer the engine - who know tehre might be a spare some where in chiangmai

Thank you, not in a hurry yet but being prepared: 2006 Honda civic, 2.0 liter engine, auto 6 speed. Dont know the engine model # yet, have to find the label.  Interested in info for 3 things: k20z3, rebuild my own and auto trans rebuild or new.

have Honda 2006 K20z3 engine 2.0 liter. Transmission is an automatic 6 speed. And I really don’t know if  the trans or torque converter is going out but one of the two or both is going out.

If the fluid has any discoloration it should be changed and clean/change the filter. Often flushing the tranny will solve the problem, when was the last time the transmission fluid was flushed and changed? Could also be the solenoid pack.

That is the first thing I did, it helped a little but still has a problem when stopping; its late in downshifting to first gear. Thanks

Delayed down shift could be dirty filter, valves or improper fluid level, the fluid level tolerance on those transmissions are very tight, it needs to be damn near exact. Slipping, varnished plates, needs rebuild. Or solenoid pack, easy swap. If shuddering, hopping when catching gears or leaking, tc. Fixing transmission problems can be pretty inexpensive if you know what to look for. Very expensive at the mercy of a mechanic.

I have a manual transmission so easily and cheaply repaired anywhere. However when my friends auto started playing up the mechanic ( same one as mine ) did the same and shipped it off for repair. But not Bangkok. somewhere in Nakorn Sawang.
