Cop in the news for good deed with kind kids at KFC

A touching story is doing the rounds of Thai social media after a young cop saw two boys without enough money for a proper lunch at KFC.

The boys - aged about 6 and 8 - had gone up to the counter of the store in Rangsit with just 40 baht.

They asked for two pieces of chicken but it was only enough for one piece. That cost 37 baht.

The elder boy then put the three baht change in a donation box for the needy.

He then was overheard saying that the younger brother should eat the chicken.

A lady next to them took pity and handed over a piece of chicken and a cup for a drink refill.

Police Lance Corporal Suthirak Maneerak saw all this and was moved to step in.

He bought the boys another meal deal - it was less than 100 baht but he wanted to help.

Suthirak said he was impressed by the elder boy's kindness to his brother and thoughtfulness in donating money to others.

So he chipped in.

He then posted his experience on Facebook saying the last thing on his mind was self-promotion.

It was just a nice story.

Daily News found out and went to interview the cop who works out of Virphavadee police station in northern Bangkok.

maybe they had eaten breakfast and had lunch at school and were on the way home and fancied some chicken but only had the 40 baht, nothing to do with parent responsibility.

Come on just weird, don;t try to dampen one of the few nice stories that come out ?

no good deed goes ,without a'' photo shopped'' opp...

Where did I dampen the story? I wrote that it was a nice thing to do. As what is especially nice with it, I do not know, though. In most countries in the world, this is not classified as newsworthy on any kind of level.

However. it might be like you state. They eat breakfast home, and lunch in school. In that case, though. Why did the older brother offer the younger to eat? That might suggest that they where hungry.

sorry was replying to get real. he's a little weird hence the mix up ?

Hang on a sec, did someone say "a proper lunch at KFC" ? A contradiction in terms if ever I heard one ?

Hypothetically, I kicked a dog out of the road to stop it being run-over, but I broke one of its back legs.  Do I get praised for saving the dog or charged with cruelty to animals!

I've just read about a cop tying a kid to the father on a motorcycle!  Now, I'm reading about a cop buying chicken for a couple of kids, then posting his exploits on FB.

These good Samaritan stories are becoming nearly as common as honest taxi driver stories.

Enough of the constant B*++*<^$!

There are thousands of unsung gestures of charity and love, just visit some of the many orphanages, and Yes, if you can donate. There is always a need but spending some time with the orphans will cheer both you and the orphans as well as the volunteers who care for them.

Unexpectedly good day at the checkpoint can give you chicken wings on your facebook likes?

If not for self promotion then why post on Facebook?  I ask considering he did so only after another customer, a female provided a piece of chicken so the elder brother could have something to eat.  The brothers could have used the 40 Baht to buy a plate of Thai food and shared that instead of eating KFC which is loaded with a fattening ingredient, oil.

'nuf sed

Oh boy. Some days ago a saw a homeless, dirty man sleeping on the street in bangkok. I woke him up and gave him 100b for food (i made signs for eating). He give me wai and i walked away not thinking anything.

Next time i do the same as the cop and i will make for sure in the TV evening news as 'Super-Farang'

Doesn't suggest that at all, but heh, just keep thinking of things to moan about.
