Cambodia and the United Kingdom will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on opening a communication channel to discuss issues of interest to both countries. The commitment to sign the MoU was made yesterday during a meeting between Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and newly-appointed British Ambassador to Cambodia Tina Susan Redshaw.

In a press conference after the meeting, newly-appointed ministry spokesman Ket Sophann said that both countries will sign the MoU on consultation between both foreign ministries at a date yet to be determined. He added that the MoU is aimed at providing a channel to discuss any problem that crops up on issues of mutual interest to both countries.

Mr Sophann noted that Britain is also committed to continued bilateral cooperation and helping Cambodia on education and demining. He said that Mr Sokhonn expressed his profound respect for Britain for its help on demining, and that he asked the British government to contribute to the Asean Regional Mine Action Centre which will help share its experience and knowledge on demining in the region.
