There was a recent thread about the postponement of Trump's Military Parade.   In general, do you believe that military parades are a good idea?

Please feel free to post a comment.

Trump’s desire to have a military parade was only to boost this narcissistic, childish man’s ego. During the 4th of July in the USA local units of the military -including veterans sometimes participate in local parades celebrating the county’s independence and freedom. This has always been adequate to the normal American.

The way to honour military people and their sacrifice is to treat them well, keep all the promises made to them, and try to repay them for their service and duty with the respect that they have earned.

It is insulting to all to have Trump demand a parade simply to satisfy his ego.

Pretty sure it would have involved the US Military. I didn't even know Trump had a military.  Or have we taken the final step to becoming an official banana republic?

As a vet, if they wanted to honor my service they would have vested me after 5 years of service as they do all civilian Federal employees.  You put your ass (life) on the line, unlike your civilian counterparts, and then receive zip, zero, nada unless you stay in a full 20 years.

So, honoring mine and others veteran's service with a military parade or a feel-good speech?  <laughs cynically>  Ya'll have to be freaking kidding me.  Military men and women are cannon fodder to be used and tossed as far as the US government is concerned.  But the politicians love to pay us lip service.  I could tell them where to put there lips - but I'll let that go considering that we're in polite company.

There is seminal need for any group to display its martial valor and thus demonstrate a peoples' degree of security ... confetti parades do not do this .... these are pure ostentation that please a given political purpose, which I'm afraid is Trump's goal, especially as a lifelong glitter man who gold plates toilets.

And yet they keep signing up by the tens of thousands every year. I agree, why? Too many John Wahyne movies I suspect.Unfortunately the US government feels free to waste and squander the blood of  young American patriots that haven't had enough years to gain adequate judgement abilities.

Too late now..

I am off to enlist!

Do you think they'll take a 64 year old one legged man?

As an ex-serviceman with 17years service in the RAF I can say quite happily that I don’t know anyone who liked parades. They are normally done on what should be your time of, time that could be better spent with your family and friends. Not marching through towns in front of civilians who couldn’t give a stuff about the forces.

Australia and I assume NZ hold annual ANZAC Day parades. They march through capital cities but it os remembrance of those fallen and to celebrate the veterans.

Not to try to show the world how big our pen1s is, which is what I think Trump was thinking aboit his parade.

Ah, the irony of a draft dodger wanting to arrange a military parade in his own honor.:bah: I guess he found out he would miss a round of golf and canceled it.

A boring waste of time and money and likely not very interesting to most folks.

Exactly, and the majority of these parades, think Kim, Putin, Xi and so on, the people who turn up to watch probably have little choice.

But I bet the likes of Kim feels pretty splendid watching an ICBM cruise past his throne.

Poor trump, he has to postpone his own phallic display. But, lets not forget trumps button is the  most tremendous, biggest button the world has ever seen.
