Er... Ahem... Oh...   Your job is to run a clean election. One side is cheating already by campaigning when others can't, long before it begins. What precisely are you going to do about that

  • Not sure why he is worried, this country is run by utterly dishonest people, that didn't receive even a single vote. I think this person is overdoing his job. If the electorate elects an MP, he should

And here is our popular Sunday quiz, fill in the blank:

New poll commissioner vows to prevent (..............) crooks from getting into the parliament.

"yellow"? ?

Getting them out should have been his choice of words.

Maybe they can find some Gurkhas from Nepal for the parliament? they are honest people.

Too late , already there

Similar to getting rid of the rats in Bangkok.....

Newly-appointed election commissioner Pakorn Mahannop vowed today that he would try to make sure that dishonest people will not be able to get into the parliament.

Short of a miracle, how does he think that is achievable!

Newly-appointed!  If you want to keep your job, I wouldn't make promises that are impossible to keep, if I were you.

Only street vendors will be eligible.

Just enforce bans for people convicted of corruption and other prison sentences. Usually they get a so many year ban, should be lifetime if found guilty of corruption.

I like his attitude but its not really fair, just make sure the judiciary works faster on corruption cases and let them make sure the ban is added to sentences. This way its proven in court someone is corrupt and can't run. Can't have him.. how ever admirable his thoughts are to be the one deciding.

You like his attitude ? He needs to organize elections, nothing more and nothing less. I seem to remember the last EC couldn't even manage that. He does not have any say in who actually becomes an MP, that is the job of the electorate. We can all see where this is going. Democracy my ass...

Interesting to see if this approach will be applied to the 200 unelected Senators?

No of course not, they will no doubt be of the level of Suthep, but hey they are friends of the NCPO and that's why they will get the job. By the way the first five years there are 250 of them, it is all about the balance of power, nothing more and nothing less.

How about keeping coup makers out of Government House.  :whistling:

I was wondering why he didn't want chefs in government until I put my reading glasses on.

It's obvious - too much cooking the books.

Yes unlike you i like it when they prevent crooks from getting into the goverment. This is however not his job, its up to judges to add bans to convictions (as they have in the past). Its not up to this guy to decide that without a court. That would be dangerous, that said if he genuinely does not want crooks as MP's I can only applaud that but its not his job.

What about the ones already in there? Or the incompetent ones, or the lazy ones, or the corrupt ones, or the ones taking Thailand back to the 19th century ............ and so on!

You still don't get it do you ? Crooks in his book are people from the other side. Nothing more and nothing less. This country is currently run by crooks, by real criminals. People that broke the law.

As to my motives, you have no idea. Let's just say that unlike you , I keep my eyes open, and I see crooks everywhere, however, I prefer crooks that actually bothered to get a mandate, as a true democrat. This guy would be out of a job in any normal democratic country for these utterly stupid remarks. In Thailand he will keep his job, after all, he was appointed for precisely this reason.

Anyone still thinking Thailand returns to democracy next  year is dreaming. His remarks are just one piece of evidence, amongst many others.

Unfortunately the current crooks are well protected.. I can only hope that there comes a time that they too are expelled.

Your assuming that in his books crooks are those of the other side.. I however can't read his mind its a trick i would love to learn from you. That is why i said if he genuinely wants this.. not as you say to keep the other side out.

I think we both see crooks everywhere because they are everywhere. I have never made a difference between crooks unlike you. I want all of them caught. Getting a mandate does not mean they can steal the country blind.. that is not what they got a mandate for they get a mandate to govern the country not to steal... could you explain to me why a crook that has a mandate is better then a crook that has none.. in my book when they break the law they need to be convicted.. even if they have a mandate.. and also when they dont.

The current crooks are the people that appointed him, and they didn't do it because they like him so much. When do you wake up I wonder !

You have got to be the joke of the week mate You going to stop the crooks entering Parliment :cheesy: There are 189 there now and they will still be there after the election. So you won't have to stop anybody

I do not have to read his mind, he was appointed by the NCPO, that's all one needs to know.

As to the rest of your post, people that have a mandate and "steal the country blind" do get punished, it is the people without a mandate, stealing the country blind that do not get punished because they also awarded themselves and amnesty. It is really simple, you cannot possibly win this argument, you already 4-0 behind.

No i am only behind in your mind.. in my mind you have lost it forever because you seem to make a difference between those that been elected and those that have not before you decide if they need to get punished for a crime. That is the biggest bias I have ever seen.

In my opinion NOBODY has a right to rob this country blind, I don't make a difference between the two all the time like you do. I want all crooks judged and put away. You keep hammering on the fact that those that are in power now are protected and I agree they are protected. But that does not change MY desire to see justice. Just because some people are protected does not make it right for others to steal and rob.  When will you ever get that.

You are saying because he was appointed by the NCPO he is evil that is like saying that everyone who is in the PTP is evil because they are minions of Thaksin. I prefer to judge people on their actions first instead of pre judging everyone like you do. I have no problem with the PTP in power as long as they follow the rules don't steal and stuff like that. Once they do I will attack them not before. I guess some of us are more open minded then others.. judging people on their actions instead of alliance.

Maybe once you will get it in your mind that all those that break the law SHOULD get punished.. not just the ones you don't like.

If you cannot, or will not understand the point I am trying to make about the self appointed amnesty, then there really is no point arguing any further. If you really believe that people that are subjected to checks and balances and have to follow the rules set forth in the constitution are the same as people that set aside said constitution, drafted their own, and are not accountable to anyone, then what is the point of this discussion. You are denying facts, or are trying to leave them out of the discussion. That's not how the world works Rob.

Of course at no point in time did I ever claim that people with a mandate should not be punished and those that don't should, in fact, I claimed that those with a mandate have and will be punished and those without such a mandate will not, and will never, because of their self awarded amnesty. Those are cold hard facts, that cannot possibly be denied.

As to this bloke, he is not appointed in the EC for nothing, he is appointed because he will do what he is told to do by the NCPO. That includes preventing people from running with no real apparent reason, up to simply rigging the result, which they now have been givena whopping 30 days to achieve !

for crying out loud, this is not about Thaksin, this is about a small group of people taking Thailand for the next few decades, when oh when do people wake up. In spite of overwhelming evidence, some remain blissfully ignorant. Open your eyes, instead of making a fool out of yourself.

Oh and stop lecturing me about justice, people that go to jail for offense, whilst others don't, just because they happen to be the judge, executioner and jury at the same time, is not justice. For crying out loud. You have no clue about justice whatsoever.

Edited by sjaak327

Frankly, can anyone doubt that he's just laying ground for rigging the next elections?

I bet that in the election law, there will be a provision such as "in case a candidate is suspected/accused of corruption or another crime by the EC, his candidacy will be suspended until a court makes a decision" (i.e. six month later).

How do I know? Because that's what I would do If I were the Junta. Untill now this method has proven to be quite often predictive.

Let's face it, if no crooks in government was applied worldwide no country would have a government.

Just sayin'
