Over 50 retirement visa

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I’m having a bit of a frustrating time at the moment. I am 57 and would like to retire here. Have been to a few visa shops and they ask me for a stamped letter from my Embassy (UK) to say that I have retired. I have nothing to say I’m retired, it was my decision. In the UK, we don’t retire until 65 soon to be 67. I am fortunate enough to live off my dividends, not a lot but enough to get out the rat race.

ANY IDEAS?

You don't need anything from your embassy to prove you are retired to get a visa and then a extension of stay based upon retirement.

I suspect the agents are trying to sucker you into them doing the visa and extension application for you.

If you have 65k baht or more income from dividends you can get a income letter from the UK embassy. You apply for it by mail. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

You will first need to apply for a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration.

Requirements are here: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80 (click on Eng at the top right of page to get a English version)

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa you would apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement.
