BANGKOK, 23rd August 2018 (NNT) - As many provinces throughout Thailand are affected by flooding, 13 provinces in the northern, northeastern, and central regions are facing water shortage and need help from artificial rain-making operations.

The Director-General of Department of Royal Rain-making and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA), Surasee Kittimonthon, said on Thursday (Aug 23rd) that farmer representatives from 46 districts of the 13 provinces had sought help from his department last week. The provinces included Tak, Uttradit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, and Maha Sarakham.

Mr. Surasee said artificial rain-making teams in Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Lop Buri, and Kanchanaburi already conducted cloud-seeding operations, resulting in little or moderate rain in some areas.

He said farmers in 30 districts are still in need of water for their crops and livestock on a regular basis, and assured that the department would do its best to help them.

By happenstance?

In the most comprehensive reassessment of the effects of cloud seeding over the past fifty years, new findings have dispelled the notion that seeding is an effective mechanism for precipitation enhancement.

"By comparing rainfall statistics with periods of seeding, we were able to show that increments of rainfall happened by chance," https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/11/101101125949.htm

While most published research on hygroscopic seeding acknowledges some effect, the results are usually inconsistent and marginal. The most detailed survey on cloud-seeding science, a 2003 report,* concluded that “there still is no convincing scientific proof of the efficacy of intentional weather modification efforts.”

The technology for weather change has been around for a long time now, as far back as the Vietnam war they were using it.

I guess the Thai's have no access to the new technologies like HAARP & DARPA - probably a good job ?

Off course there is a lot of denial about the use of this "technology" so you have to read the "fake" news to try and find out the truth, lucky for us they are well on the way to banning any news that doesn't toe the "official" view :whistling:

Last thing you want is an informed public ?

Howbout use a fleet of water trucks to drain excess water from critically overflowing dams, and then drive the stuff where needed ? Ah but TiT, let's just run the overflow downstream affecting thousands and thousands of households, and try to make artificial rain instead ?‍♂️

Dry as the desert about me and this is in Kap Choeng Surin. Very little if no rain at all. Heard them  beating their wings yesterday but to no avail.

Many years ago a seeding plane sat in Abu Dhabi, UAE for almost a year. It flew a handful of times, generally without success. The only time it *may* have worked resulted in the flooding of a small area in adjacent Oman. None fell in the UAE.

Stop confusing us with science, Srikcir. You'll make people unhappy.

Yes, but you have to understand this is Thailand. Different atmospheric condition and methods of seeding here.
