Just got a UK Government FCO alert stating :

"Airport Tax

With effect from 1 February 2007, airport tax of 700 Baht per person will be incorporated into the cost of tickets. Airport tax for domestic flights is also included in tickets. The exception is Koh Samui where there is a domestic departure tax of 400 Baht per person."

Not sure if this is posted anywhere else, in not should be in the news section ?

You'd think the FO would at least get the descriptions of the two taxes right. Airport Tax was increased from 50 to 100 baht from 1st Feb and has always been included in the ticket price. International Departure Tax was increased from 500 baht to 700 baht and used to be collected in cash at the last point of international departure from Thailand. Some airlines, led by Thai Airways, announced that for tickets issued after date of increase IDP would be included in the ticket price but if not would still have to be paid in cash on departure.

Think that's right but who knows with anything to do with Bangkok Airport(s) at the moment! :o

Yeah when I collected my ticket on TG Biz bought with ROP airmiles the cash I hadto pay was more than first quoted.

I was told it because the 700THB is now incorporated and nothing to pay upon leaving.

It was actually cheaper than 700THB though is converted to Singapore Dollars ;-)))

When I booked my ticket on Thai, the UK travel agent said the tax was paid, at BKK airport they said it wasn't on the ticket...But can't be bothered to chase up 1400 baht for me and my mate..I think more aggro than it's worth :o

Just bought a couple of Tics on TG and sure enought the 700 bt is included as well as the doubled APD (from Feb 1st)...nice little earner... :o

Best at the moment from LHR on TG R/T is about £495 but had a couple of quotes in April @ around £460...Som..n.....etc

Air passenger duty increase from Feb 1st.

Air Passenger Duty (APD) is an excise duty which is charged on the carriage of passengers flying from a United Kingdom airport on an aircraft that has an authorised take off weight of more than ten tonnes or more than twenty seats for passengers.

Air Passenger Duty was doubled from February 1, 2007, and the lower rate is to be extended to all the countries within the Single European Sky.

This following summarises the changes: :D

Rate Previous rate Feb 2007

European destinations, lowest class £5.00 £10.00

European destinations, other classes £10.00 £20.00

Other destinations, lowest class £20.00 £40.00

Other destinations, other classes £40.00 £80.00 :D

I just checked how much a ticket would cost ,and they told me also that the 700 baht was counted in the ticket price,so no more departure tax.I wonder though that it would be appropiate just to take the 700 with me ,just in case.Would be ripping of if they still would ask for a double....

Wondering how they are going to collect the departure fee for those of us who purchased tickets prior to Feb 1. Will the airlines collect it (in which case I can probably use my credit card) or will there be a separate collection desk to cover those of us who purchased our tickets prior to the new rules. Anyone have any experience with this yet?
