Bar girl salary

It was stated in another thread, a bar girl earning 8,000 Bht per month. I have been wondering what the average bar girl does earn. As most bars that i've seen, the number of girls available far exceeds the number of clients.

I'm sure that there are some stunners that manage to be bar fined nearly every night, so I guess they could earn anywhere around 30,000 bht per month.

And at the other end of the scale there are some that I can't imagane being bar fined more than once or twice a month and even then at low rates, so I guess with the wage from the bar owner a max of 3,000 Bht.

Anyone care to attempt a bell curve graph....

ie 5% earn more than xx,xxx / month

next 10% earn more than xx,xxx / month etc...

Even better, is there a bar owner in the audience tonight that might even have an accurate opinion...

Why don't you conduct a study, and ask as many bar girls as you can find, how much Baht they earn, i'm sure they'd be only too happy to tell you.

I have been out of the bar scene for many years but it used to work like this.

The girl gets a small monthly wage from the bar, plus half the barfines that she takes plus what the punter gives her.

After 20 barfines in one month she gets 80% of the barfine

They is a little book behind the bar to record all this.  I never had any trouble getting to read it. It makes very interesting reading. Any girl who gets taken out for several nights by one punter is likely to be an enthusiastic performer.

Can anyone confirm this is how it still works ??

I've never read the bookThetyim but I've been the punter a few times.  When I haven't been there for a while, I can spend Baht 2,000 easily.  If it's a good looking girl, she can make the Baht 8,000 easily in a week.  That's twice what a policeman or school teacher makes in a month.  Of course, that's the exception.  We all know most of the bar girls with a heart of gold and not much else going for them.  I think most girls are on survival wages only.

Most Bar girls get a salary of 2000 baht a month and live a box type apartment with another girl from the same bar. from my experience talking to the Bar owners the girl recieves     50 % of the bar fine if she gets 10 a month and is certainly encouraged to get the "lady drinks" all night as another little earner.   A friend of mine from the UK goes out to Pattaya for a month and searches all the bars for a couple of days and pays the Bar fine for the full month (get's a discount) and he gets the best service for that month you could dream of.

I was in Bangkok at christmas and spoke to a few to kill time. (It doesn't hurt to by a drink or two for a girl dancing naked in between dances if the converstaion is pleasant).

It really depends on the girl and the bar. They had to get a minimum of 8 punters in one month otherwise they would have to go to another bar (This was in Soy Cowboy).

The girls generally seem to fall in to 3 catagories.

1. The profiteer. Farang have money too much and I want it all! I will sleep with as many as I can and expect them to support me when they are not in the country.

2. The victim. I don't really want to be here but I have a son back home (usually from a Thai boyfriend/husband) and I must pay the family for his keep!.....The family may or may not know what she is doing but they like the money.

3. The freelancer. I work when I have to but if you want to look after me for a few weeks...fine. As long as I don't have to sleep in my rat pit with 3 other Thais!

From past experience, number 3 is the best. You usually pay for the first and second night (which will cover their rent for the month and give them something to send back home). And they will stay with you as long as you treat them with respect and courtesy. But it is THEIR choice.

hello all,i just joined this board,and whilst im not an expat i have just returned from phuket and am going back out soon as i love the place.this particular event took place at a bar in soi seadragon in  patong beach.

i am posting here as i had a good conversation with a guy who owned a bar and a few of the bar girls at this bar(1 of whom i spent a fair few days with).we got talking about how much the bar girls made.he said he payed them 1500 a month plus they had a room above the bar that 4 shared and they got 50% of bar fine which was 100 baht plus about 40 % of drinks that punters bought them.

i then said to the girls how many men they had on average in a week,the next bit came as a surprise to me(i was in phuket 2 weeks ago).

they said on average 4 men a week,to which i replied that isnt very many at all,and then i was told the jaw dropper,which was,"but in high season between 20-30 men a week".i nearly fell off my stool.they said they where mainly short times which i replied obviously as there only 7 bloody days in a week.but that many men equates to about 15000-30000 baht a week depending on how much you payed.most where between 500-1000 baht.

it put me off bar girls for an hour or so.they are all out to make the money off us farangs,sure there are probably a few decent ones who wanna find a bloke and get out of it,but most do it for the money is easy and they do well out of it.i have no quarms about wot they do,if i didnt like it i wouldnt go with them,but i must admit,every now and then i found myself on top of a girl who was 19 years old and saying she loved me and i am in turn thinking,i am probably punter number 456,and its then that i finish the job,have a shower,watch a bit of tv with her,fall asleep,wake up and take her for breakfast then say goodbye,then move onto the next one,as spending more than a couple of days with the same girl is dangerous,thats when you start to fall for them.i am a newcomer to thailand,but i believe in my first tour i discovered a lot.dont get me wrong,i love the people and the place,but i aint being taken for a ride by no1.im there for the fun.

Seems like I've stumbled on a chat forum with many newbies, but I'm always glad to help out.

I can answer these questions.

Waitresses/hello girls make between 3,000 and 3,500 baht per month salary. They split tips unless the customer specifically tells them that the tip is exclusively for them.

Dancers usually make about 5,000, 6,000 for topless, and some bars pay about 7,000-8,000 for all nud_e dancing.

The dancers at most bars have a bar fine quota of 8 per month. After 8 some bars allow them to participate in part of the bar fines in excess of 8.

Thus, waitresses can make about 8,000 to 12,000 baht per month without any bar fines. Some dancers earn up to about 35,000 baht.  These funds do not, of course, include any money that suckers send over to the girl each month thinking they are the "exclusive" boyfriend and that his "girlfriend" is no longer working at the bar.  these guys are fools.
