Government urged not to block use of social media by politicians to reach out to people

Pheu Thai acting secretary-general Phumtham Wetchayachai urged the government and the Election Commission to be more broad-minded and not to block politicians from using social media to communicate with their constituents or supporters.

He said social media was a tool through which politicians and the people could communicate with each other.

The duty of a political party, said Phumtham, is to reach out to the people, to share information, problems and thoughts and this is a two-way contact which is not illegal but mutually beneficial.

All these fools forget one thing.

Nobody lives forever,  no empire has ever lasted in perpetuity.

More than even this,  the dinosaurs face the rentless rush of yet undreamed of technology that will change everything,  even if the people won't.

The media plays us all, that should be clear to all but the dimmest mind by now. Why get upset over the insanity. We have no control over, and even less say in the outcome.

Relax, enjoy the circus,  count your blessings.

It's Saturday.

Then you might win.  The election is only an exercise in appeasement, not fairness.  Junta will do no such thing until it is shamed by the press and elected officials outside of Thailand.

It will be certainly interesting as to how the outside coverage is looked upon or how it might manifest.

Won't receive much harsh critique from mainstream sources - to be expected. Thailand has always been looked upon [superficially] as a darling little brother that is mischievous occasionally, but never breaks bad in most regards. Historically, it's all been too predictable.

One might follow the scores of of real Thailand affairs pundits [writers, scholars, activists, exiled, etc] that square up perspectives in a most unconventional fashion.

And unless they block the internet totally they will never be able to stop people accessing the truth.

But it is OK for the Junta Party politicians to use the national media to reach out to people to show what wonderful people they are.

Like all the mega media publicity that surrounds the PM' s election roadshow around the provinces. And his weekly TV boring self promos.

Pull the other one!

....and their attempts recently to control/censor the cyber world have fallen to comic levels.

They really haven't a clue as to <deleted> they're doing.

There is more than a boat load of alternative/opposing material available and these thugs still don't know which way is up.

Social media is just like the birth of the computer age all over again...

you only get out what you put in!!!
