Stateless paper plane champion applies for Thai citizenship

CHIANG MAI, 4th September 2018, (NNT) - The stateless paper-folded airplane competition champion has applied for Thai nationality. The process is expected to take three weeks.

The 21-year old stateless man, Mong Thongdee, who rose to fame as the local and international paper-folded airplane competition champion, this week applied for Thai nationality at the government complex in Chiang Mai Province. The Deputy District Chief of Muang Chiang Mai District accepted the petition and personally processed Mr. Mong’s document.

According to the government’s procedures in requests for nationality, the responsible unit will perform a criminal record check on the applicant, interview two witnesses, and review other relevant documents, before going through the legal proceedings. Consideration takes roughly 90 days to complete, with another 30 extra days for additional scrutiny, if needs be.

However, in the case of Mr. Mong, it is speculated that the Chiang Mai Governor may shorten the procedure to a week. After the examination process is done, the governor will request the Department of Provincial Administration to assign a 13-digit ID for Mr. Mong. The paper plane champion can then file a petition with the Office of the Registrar Suthep Sub-District Municipal Office,

before heading back to Chiang Mai’s capital district office for the issuance of a citizen ID card.

Mr. Mong expects to receive his first ID Card within five months, while saying he hopes to purchase a piece of land, so he can build a house on Thai soil. He is planning to study for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, in order to stay in the construction field as his father before him.

So all the rest of the people who have been waiting years for the outcome of their Thai citizenship application should now start making paper planes should they ?   How about other children's activities to expedite their applications like ,  crazy dough modelling,  Hop Scotch or even tiddly winks ? would they help their applications being fast tracked ?   Just as bad as the UK waving VISA requirements for the Indian boy because he is good at Chess.

If their application was fast tracked, would it become Scalextric?

Not forgetting Zola Budd the South African who was a good runner, gained British Citizenship due to that.

Hmm,..Well, it's about the same the world all over. If you draw attention to yourself by winning a championship or any International event that put the country in the light in a positive way you get special privileges, like a "get out of jail card"

I can make bubbles in the bath...
would that help push through my application?

It would help it rise to the top quicker, yes.

I think there's a lot of paperwork involved to get into the air force.

 Point taken.

There is also the point that the recent cases with the cave boys and now Khun Mong might well open up / speed up this process for others and eventually big numbers.

It's been said many times before that the very very slow processing for folks who actually qualify is mostly because of lazy ignorant officials who have personal negative opinions about this matter and don't follow the stated regulations.

Just recently with the cave boys there were announcements about giving them citizenship and quickly a local lower level official insisted that it would take years to process the documents.

My Thai son says there was a quick mention of this in the Thai news and the official was smacked down and told that he needed to do as he was ordered and change his attitude.

Let's hope the whole process for all concerned speeds up and soon.

Good luck mong don’t give up hoping for a positive outcome!

I think Scalextric won in the end....bit like Betamax and VHS...TCR was a better system IMHO....though I wouldn't admit it at the time.

He's been waiting since 2009 when he was promised it by Abhisit.
