I think there should be a place/places where street vendors can be accommodated and offer their wares to the public, in part to help maintain the historic retail flavor of Bangkok.   But why

  • There are plenty of areas in Bangkok where the pavements are wide enough to accommodate both pedestrians and some vendors.  How about identifying those areas, defining the spots that are suitable for

The power for this stuff is in the baht; how much will it cost the street vendors?

Just ignore them and they will get tired and hungry after a few days in the rain and go back where they came from....

Pavement vendors are a blight and when Thais stop to buy something they block the road with their pickup or taxi, further adding to the conjestion

You wanna starve, hotshot?

He’s probably thinking of the health of his guts! Yank

Street vendors are a huge part of the livelihood and pulse of Bangkok not to mention a huge part of the tuorism that flocks to the capital. Locals, tourists, and business people suffering from this

Plenty of empty car parks around they could be moved to if people insist on eating that crap

Just rich thugs destroying what Thailand was built on

Sidewalks?

This is all typical of the arrogance of the rich, the elite and the junta: In Singapore when the government wanted hawkers off the streets they built Hawkers Centres in every neighbourhood and provided decent quality fair rent stalls for the traders.  Here the rich charge sky high rents for the buildings they own that place them WAY outside the rate the traders can afford, leaving them no alternative but to take to the pavements.

Some people here forget that Thailand has only been a "civilized" country in Western Terms for 100 years.

Other guys forget that times change, and that developing countries aren't zoos for the amusement of tourists.

I haven't been  there for  years but  the traders around on nut BTs were  moved into a market style venue and it was neat, tidy and clean

Beer and food on sticks were the same price so the rent can't have been too excessive....

What is the diffrence between an empty car park and a restaurant somewhere.? You completely miss the whole point along with vibe and lifestyle of bkk. Oh and that crap is local delicacy and great food to many, just because it is not Mc Donalds don't be so quick to cast dispersions
