Bangkok starts construction of utility tunnel at Phloen Chit

BANGKOK, 6th September 2018 (NNT) - The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has begun drilling a 3.6-meter-wide underground tunnel, which will service the largest power distribution system in Thailand.

MEA Assistant Governor Tepsak Titaraksa, announced today that project is an expansion of the tunnel from Chidlom to Sarasin Road and from Chidlom to Phloen Chit Intersection on Phloen Chit Road. The tunnel will be 40 meters underground and run 1.3 kilometers to distribute 230 kilowatts of electricity.

The project employs Japanese boring technology that utilizes a water and foam solution to soften the soil. Once the soil is removed, the builders will install 1.1-meter panels that are 22.5 centimeters thick to reduce the risk of tunnel collapse during construction.

The tunnel will also be equipped with state-of-the-art flood and fire alarms, as well as a ventilation system to prevent fires. The project is currently 30% underway and is expected to be completed in late 2020, with a construction budget of 878 million baht.

The plan is to time-share between all the users, maybe five minutes each, per day.

At a guess, perhaps it might be 230Kv? There again, it may be nothing of the sort.

Think positive! Water AND electricity at high voltage should provide great Facebook blurbs. 'Look, my hair is standing on end.....'
