Cave heroes to receive royal medals

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has granted Most Admirable Order of the Direkgunabhorn medals to 114 foreigners and 74 Thais who were involved in the rescue of 12 Wild Boar soccer players and their coach from the flooded Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai from June 23 to July 11, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said on Thursday.

 

A ceremony was being held on Friday afternoon at Government House with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha. 

 

Another batch of 184 civil servants, police and military personnel would also be presented with a souvenir pin celebrating His Majesty's fifth-circle birthday anniversary, he added. 

 

A grand reception is being held this evening to thank all those involved in the dramatic search and rescue operations. 

 

Suwaphan said at least at least 7,000 guests were attending the reception. 

 

"Many told me they were happy to attend this party. The government is also happy to have the chance to thank them," he added.

Good to see Foreigners and Thai’s alike being rewarded for their courage and hard work !!

UK Guardian newspaper reports 'Psychologists had counseled that the boys after their rescue in July should be given a six-month respite from being pressed to recount their experience for the sake of their mental health. But Thailand's military government, eager to share the glory of the good-news story, has not taken their advice.'

I wonder if their families are happy about their children being paraded around like this?

"psychologists" ... means more than one, but nothing more.

doesn't say if these 2 or more were in the majority with that assessment or whether other psychologists had another opinion.

also, psychologists are not medical doctors, not much credit can be given to that report, it's just an opportunity to take a stab.

IN ADDITION to the government-hosted thank-you reception for those who helped in the Tham Luang cave-rescue operation, many others will also be getting special recognition for their contribution.
 

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn granted the “Most Admirable Order of the Direkgunabhorn” honour to 114 foreigners and 74 Thais who were involved in rescuing the 12 Wild Boar soccer players and their assistant coach from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said yesterday.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will present the honours at a ceremony at Government House today, he said.

Apart from those involved in the cave rescue, 184 civil servants, police and military officers will also be presented with a souvenir pin marking His Majesty’s 66th birthday. 

 

Suwaphan made his comments before the grand reception kicked off last night. The reception was held at the Dusit Palace Plaza under the “United as One” theme. Suwaphan said some 7,000 people attended the celebration. 

“Many people said they were happy to attend this party. The government is also happy to have the chance to thank them,” he added.

The footballers and their 25-year-old assistant coach also joined thousands of guests at the reception, including the Australian rescue team led by anaesthetist Dr Richard Harris, more than 3,000 Chiang Rai residents and some 10 rock climbers from Krabi’s Railay Bay.

 

Earlier yesterday the young footballers revealed their dream of leading Thailand’s national football team to the World Cup finals, at a Culture Ministry-hosted press conference in Bangkok’s Siam Paragon mall. 

 

The boys, aged between 11 and 16, also expressed their gratitude to His Majesty the King and everybody else who contributed to their rescue. 

 

The boys admitted that though they were recognised more frequently – their junior striker Doungphetch Phromthep already has 300,000 Instagram followers – their lives remained pretty much the same. 

 

They said they were now working on gaining physical strength by running, going on bicycle rides and playing football. 

 

They also recounted their nine days as novices in a local temple, saying meditation and dhamma lessons have helped them stay calm, confident and in touch with reality.

Meanwhile, an interactive exhibition “Tham Luang Incredible Mission: The Global Agenda” will continue at Siam Paragon until September 9, after which it will be taken on tour across the country.

I'm shocked that Elon Musk didn't get an award after his massive contribution. Perhaps he should sue them or start accusing them of something heinous.

Not sure I would label them all Heros unless they actualy risked their lives in the rescue but well there you go not my decision. Helping out at the entrance of cave isn't an act Heroism in my opinion but thats just my opinion.
