Do they still have them at the airport arrivals?

Are there any with a decent amount of "normal" data ?  (My last one after a day or so it went horrifically slow, to the point of unusable).

Thx

Yes, they still have them at BKK. Your best bet is to buy a normal basic SIM from them.

They might lie to you, telling you that they don't have them in stock or that there is no data allowance included.

Truemove H SIM will be 49 baht, with perhaps 90 MB to get you started.

Then, dependent on the kind of bandwidth you need, you buy the requisite amount of credit.

For example; Unlimited data at 1 Mbps{125kB/s} for one week(2 Mbps{250 kB/s} until the end of September) 107 baht Tap *900*8777# and press the dial button to apply the package once you've topped up.

If you prefer to buy faster data by volume, there is 10 GB over a week for 106 baht; *900*1937#

16 GB for 160 baht *900*1705#

You can buy credit in multiples of 50 baht at the Family Mart at the airport, if the airport booth tries to insist you buy 300 baht of credit when you don't need it.

Unlimited data at 4 Mbps{500kB/s} for one week 160.50 baht *900*1975#

Unlimited data at 6 Mbps{750kB/s} for one week 214 baht *900*1745#

Unlimited data at 10 Mbps{1.25MB/s} for one week 267.50 baht *900*1797#

Just examples from one network.

There are kiosks outside Customs on level 2, near door #7, DTAC has a vending machine as well.

I've seen a TrueMove H kiosk in the baggage carousel (int'l arr) area recently.

8 days/299 seems to be the going rate. Based on a dozen or so recent guests these all work fine, but they all do have FuP, so speed is throttled after data allotment is reached. I think you can buy more data easily, but you'll need to add value first.

The 299 baht SIM is a waste of time and money, especially if there is a chance of using more than 3GB in a week.

49 baht SIM is much better, especially as you'll get the Unlimited Social Apps included for 8 days once you top up. Then add the 1/2/4 Mbps package and you are away.

3GB is plenty for most people on vacation, especially with most hotels having free wi-fi these days.

It might be so. But then no need spend 299 baht for 3GB of data when you can buy the basic SIM for 49 baht and then add a 4GB package for 52.43 baht.

Bored of reading this free hotel WiFi nonsense, as if people use that in the main.

There are many places they will visit outside the hotel and having to ask every new place for their WiFi password can be annoying. Added that the risk of being on an unknown network.

So let's give the free hotel WiFi cliche a rest. No one asked about it, they asked about a SIM.
