BEngBKK
Since an aircard by default can not be accessed by other, it really does not matter but in princip it should be public. "Public" since then the computer then do not allow share files and printers. You can setup the connection so the computer work as an Hotspot. Then other people use it., but this is not recommended. (And only work when the computer is turned on) If you want to share the connection, please set it up with encyption and password. Then "home" and "work" depend on who you share it with. The choice between Home, work and public is so you can have seperate security setup (Firewall/share) for different types of connections on the same computer. Edited September 10, 2018 by BEngBKK easy to misunderstand
OneMoreFarang
Who would you trust most? People at home, at work, or anybody out there in the public? That should answer your question.

That should answer your question. Not really that helpful. Quote Public: Windows 7 puts up your PC’s shields. Windows Firewall plugs almost all its openings and protects its internal programs for being connected to potentially hostile network. Work: Windows 7 opens the Windows Firewall so that you can communicate with other computers on your network and share folders, say, or use printers on the network. Windows also starts services that make your computer visible on the network. Home: Windows 7 goes out and looks for other Windows 7 computers on the network. If it finds other Win7 computers that have a HomeGroup going, it invites you to join that HomeGroup. If it doesn’t find one, Windows 7 asks whether you want to start one.

You are describing the use of a USB connected 'aircard'. Bf the OP is using a MiFi there are different scenarios possible. If someone manages to connect to the Network, then the Public setting, as you suggested, will at least help to prevent access to the OP's files.
