Hey guys,

I came to Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption that Europeans get and extended it by 30 days. I left today via Poi Pet and wasn’t allowed in again the same day.

They told me to fly back - and I really need to, all my stuff is in BLK.

I’m in an airport now awaiting my flight, I have a flight booked out to Yangon in 26 days and over the 10,000 baht they asked me to show.

Will BKK still be a nightmare? This is the first time I’ve ever done this and only my second time in Thailand.

Your problem occurred because you chose the Poipet border crossing. They generally discourage out-ins. Any other border crossing would have been ok.

You should be ok flying in.

Poipet, whenever they can find an excuse, will tell you to fly back to Thailand. There are fixers on the Cambodian side who can arrange with Thai immigration to admit you. As others have mentioned, when Poipet refused you entry, you could have gone to another land crossing (such as Ban Packard) and entered there without a problem. Entering by air for a visa exempt entry involves a small risk, but you will usually be OK.

Thank you guys! It all went swimmingly.

I did read blogs about the crossing but upon rechecking, they are from 2016 and 2017 and only mentioned that I may have to pay extra on the Cambodian side to leave.

Thankfully, it’s all sorted. Today was a ball ache but I won’t make the same mistake again.

Has this Poi Pet same day not allowed back been in force for a long time?  I last made a visa run with bangkokbuddies in 2014 I think it was.  Maybe they arranged the fix and it was transparent to us van riders?

The two more known visa run companies in Bangkok, Bangkok Buddy and ThaiVisaService, have both switched to Ban Laem a while ago (2017).

".... due to recent additional requirements imposed to foreigners at the Poi Pet, Cambodia border, we are now doing our visa run border crossing at Ban Laem, Cambodia." (From the website of the first one).

Translation: "Our customers don't get hassled at Ban Laem".

I have been there about a year ago with bkk buddy's and two of my group could not get back in had to fly back , bkk buddy's have no connections in the border crossing they can do absolutely nothing for you , i think bkk buddy's is a scam they just offer the ride there and take care of the in stamp for you thats it

Sorry if i said its a scam, seems like they changed their border crossing but i think they should have figured that out much sooner , people paid money for the minivan ride there and back , and then get stuck there and have to buy a ticket to fly back . If you have a company arranging those trips i think you should at least have some contacts there at the border who can help you out when getting stopped. But on my trip the people who got stopped got no help from the company's staff at all .

Well. Some people will get caught in the crossfire what can you do.

I would not fault the visa run companies much. One day the boss at Poipet wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and then surprises begin.

Let's not forget the stunts they pulled at Sadao a few years back, when all of the sudden they were not letting anybody back to Thailand on a multi non B, that story actually made it to the newspapers at the time.

I agree, you know the risks you take your chances. But these border run companies should warn people in advance in case of entry denied.

Are they knocking back multi entire NON O VISA in outs as well ?

Just avoid Poipet to be safe, it had too many reported surprises (on various types of visas).

Use Ban Laem.

If you go with a border run company you will not be denied entry "just like that", because they go to the "easy" border crossings

Other people say that a cambodian law exists which says you may not enter and leave cambodia at the same day. So it doesn't have to do anything with your Thai visa, and it could also happen to Thai citizens

The overnight requirement is for those getting a visa on arrival for Cambodia.

Thai's get a 14 day visa exempt entry so it would not apply to them.

Hopefully. But they don't check the passport for any issues when you book. A guy in front of me had an overstay. I don't think it was long but he looked oblivious

... or, my theory, he gets a call from someone with a vested interest in a "new policy," with an offer of some sort.

As said above, the solution is to ignore what the Poipet/Aranya IOs say about flying (which is BS), and go to the Ban Packard or Ban Laem entry-points.  To get there, one can take a taxi direct (to either entry-point), or can take a bus to Battambang, then a shared-taxi on to Ban Laem.  From Ban Laem, there are mini-vans to all over (including Bangkok and Pattaya), the closest hop being to Chanthaburi, from which transportation by bus onward is available.
