Mangmoom Card meant to cover all mass transit modes: DPM

BANGKOK, 13 September 2018 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister/Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan remarked that Mangmoom Card will cover all modes of public transportations in the future. 

The Ministry of Defense's assistant spokesperson Lt Pornchanok Aumpan confirmed that the fifth national administration reform meeting had addressed the use of Mangmoom Card as a single card designed to be usable with all modes of public transportation. 

The card system is now being developed to adopt the EMV payment method, before being re-introduced as the Mangmoom Card 4.0 model. 

The deputy premier was quoted as saying during the meeting that the card is meant to be accepted in all transportation modes, including metro trains, commuter trains, river buses, and Airport Rail Link by December 2018. 

Mangmoom Card is currently available to the general public in various formats, including the 2.0 model adopted in the welfare card for low-income earners, and the 2.5 model adopted in the Mangmoom Card branded pre-paid cards issued by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA), which is currently accepted in the MRT system. 

Holders of welfare cards may update their card, which will allow them to pay for the MRT fares, given their transportation allowance.

IIRC didn't I read somewhere that one of the transport groups was bulking at accepting these cards?

 

I'm sure it will be as successful as Pravit's project he announced on 14th February - and has now been in operation for a month already.

Immigration cards (TM6) are now a thing of the past, fingerprints are being scanned on arrival, and everyone is being efficiently dealt with.

Time is obviously getting away from him.

I'm still waiting for a single smart card to be used on the Motorway and Expressway system.  You take a card at the first entry and pay at the exit you use, instead of continually stopping and paying  4-5 times.  Now this would be a time saver and reduce traffic jams. Maybe by the year 3000

But no mention of the BTS?

Does the card cover inter city bus and train transport?

Thailand 4.0  look how long it’s taking them to simply make a payment card work ?

It's all incredibly complex (and silly).

 

I've often described Mangmoom as the camel (a horse designed by a committee) due to the constant interference by committees (the Steering Committee has definitely lost its rudder).

• Mangmoom 2.0 is the original concept but only live for the Welfare Card.
• Mangmoom 2.5 is no more than a regular MRT-plus card with the Mangmoom branding (a fake Mangmoom) launched for face-saving and to use up a rather large stock of printed cards.
• Mangmoom 4.0 is actually a good-un. Based on the EMV standard, when (if) it ever gets going you will be able to use your contactless Visa or Mastercard to ride the trains, busses (and boats, maybe). This has just gone live in Singapore and has been going for some time in London, and even longer in KL on the KLIA Ekspress train.

 

December 2018 is for Mangmoom 2.5 on the ARL. 

 

Mangmoom 4.0 is likely to be end 2019 if they can get a spec. and a contractor organised soon.

BTS delays are being worked on (actually, largely fixed), not sure about your issues with your local pool or snooker club.

Go to Singapore, road charging without even reducing speed. Minor inconvenience, ALL vehicles MUST have the relevant OBU (On Board Unit) to be allowed on the road at all. It does work very well.

 

Korea has high-speed gates, you can drive through at 100kph if you have the OBU, be quick on the anchors if you don't have enough credit!!
