BANGKOK, 13th September 2018 (NNT)-Line app users have been warned of possible account hacking after someone used an NBT news reporter’s identity to borrow money from other people.

Warut Kasetrat, the NBT news reporter, said he found out his Line account had been hacked after four of his friends told him about messages they received from him asking each of them to lend him 20,000 baht.

Warut denies ever having sent such messages to his friends from his Line app. The news reporter immediately notified Suthisarn police about the incident.

According to his friends, they were asked to transfer the money to a Kasikorn bank account of Panadda Khainongsuang who has denied involvement in the scam.

She says she isn't the woman who appears in CCTV footage, that shows a female withdrawing money from the account in her name at an ATM in Chiang Mai province.

Panadda claims she was persuaded by someone on Facebook to join a business venture and open a bank account to receive 1,000 baht each month. She added that she didn't know what type of business it was when she agreed to do so.

The NBT news reporter said some of his friends also fell victim to Line app hackers. He also warned everyone not to transfer money to strangers.
