Who cares and the rescue story has had enough reruns is this all that happens in this country?

Vern Unsworth has shown considerable restraint in this matter. However, Elon Musk has made repeated attacks upon Unsworths reputation using Social Media.

A man take take only a certain amount of abuse before he fights back.

I think Mr. Unsworth is trying to make a point, rather than a large amount of money from this Lawsuit, as the amount being claimed is tiny ( $75 K, )  and this case will be seen as a landmark case against cyber libel, and defamation.

Yes, technically, she could be his daughter considering the 23 year age spread. That (small) spread between two mature adults hardly puts him in the category of a pedo.

Probably millions of Thai ladies are getting defamed like this everyday. Musk should make sure that cases like this will never happen again. 

Like some of the ‘twits‘ here on TV, seems Elon had to take it personal and to name calling when someone didn't agree with him.

 

Mr. Tesla can drag this out for a long time, so I hope the cave diver's lawyer is on contingency.

If this guy loses the lawsuit, he will be left with a lot of legal fees, and not to mention that Musk can countersue; it's a dangerous game, and would you like to go heads up against the kind of lawyer Musk can afford? 

Apart from anything else Vern knew what he was dealing with in order to save the lives of the boys and the coach,He also knew that no sub regardlesss how small could get anywhere near these kids,he knew it was even dangerous to even think of such a thing.He is a veteran on this sort of rescue,and im sure only the kids safe rescue mattered to him.Ok he said that about the sub but wouldnt anybody in his place say the same? I think so.It was madness to even think about it especially not knowing what was involved.So as far as i can see vern was completely correct,regardless of what he said.He deserves every bit of praise he gets,and I hope he gets millions from this upstart.It might remind him that people who know what they are doing in such circumstances should be left to do the good work,just like vern DID.

Any size age gap doesn't mean Vern is a child molester. 

This would be a very entertaining court case but I'm sure musk legal team will not let it go that far... ?

Musk called him a Pedo , not a pedophile.  Alot of people with surnames  ie  Pederson,  Peterson etc   are called Pedo for short.

Can you successfully sue someone for calling  them a Pedo ??

Musk made his first accusation on July 15th, just three days after Unsworth's CNN appearance.  Even if something does come up in the investigation, Unsworth's lawyers could argue that Musk had no knowledge of that when he made the accusation, and still technically win the case.  (Though Unsworth would still be in a world of trouble).  If, in those three days, it was that easy to find evidence of what Musk asserted, then surely Unsworth would have been aware of this and laid low?  It should also be easy to prove or disprove some of Musk's other comments. Notably the 30 year period, the frequent visits to Pattaya, and the 12 year old bride.

 

Whatever the findings, I can see further court appearances for Musk.  If the accusations are true, then a case should be presented as to why he did not take his evidence to the police.  Not only would that be the lawful and decent thing to do if having proof of paedophilia, he would also have done far more damage to Unsworth.  On the other hand, if the accusations aren't true, and Musk made them based on some perception of male expats in Thailand, a very real defamation case against him could be made by all of us living here.  Although it appears that a few members here have no objection to being called a paedophile, and claim they would say nothing if accused of such (if the cap fits... being the logical conclusion to that), I would say that the vast majority would take offense to such a lie and take steps to clear their names.

Unless Unsworth has clearly stated his intent to use the 'damages' ( what 'damage'  btw ? ) to improve the lives of thousands of underprivileged North Thai kids , in my mind he will just look like a fool  feeding  a new media circus ,  appear to be a tool of , and set  to further enrich lawyers , and end up looking like a 'richard head'  - undoing a great deal  his previous good work.

His , "Stick it .." comment could have been  easily dismissed before , as someone exasperated with sideshows while under extreme pressure.

Now he looks like some money grabber  who can dish it out  ...but cant take it .

It may seem that way but what is rarely reported is that all these ridiculously high awards go to appeal and the amounts are reduced by the Appeals Court to something a little more sensible, though still often life-changing sums.
