Heavy rains continue to pose flood risks across Thailand

BANGKOK, 20th September 2018 (NNT) – Most regions of Thailand are expected to continue to receive heavy rainfall, with close monitoring being maintained against rain-induced disasters. 

Continuously wet conditions have been forecast for the northern, central, eastern and southern regions of the country during this period due to the strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with the effect of southeasterly winds prevailing over the East and the Lower Northeast. Waves are expected to reach a height of 2-4 meters in the Andaman Sea and two meters in the Gulf of Thailand. Boat operators have been told to exercise caution at sea while small boats should be kept in port for another day. 

Heavy downpours are expected in 38 provinces, including Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phuket, Trang, Songkhla as well as Bangkok and its vicinity. 

According to the Temporary Crisis Center, incessant rain has swelled many important rivers across the country. Those currently at risk of overflowing include the Nan River in Nan province, Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai Rivers in Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Nayok River in Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri River in Prachin Buri. 

Meanwhile, six reservoirs have storage exceeding 80 percent of capacity, namely Nam UnDam in Sakon Nakhon province, Kaeng Krachan Dam in Phetchaburi, NaruebodindrachintaReservoir in Prachin Buri, Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi, Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam in Nakhon Nayok and Lam Takhong Dam in Nakhon Ratchasima. The authorities responsible are constantly adjusting water discharges in accordance with forecast rain.

You notice NO rain for Korat,Buriram and Surin.? Hay Bangkok how about spending some money on a water distribution system for the NE. ?

I still hear a general saying that there will be no flooding, so this must be all fake news.

Just started hammering down in Wichianburi,Phetchabun,seemed to come out of no where.

No rain or flooding in sukhothai.

Always checking windy.com and according to them we should have had a lot of rain in the past two weeks,a sprinkle is all.

Normal wet in Nong Bua Lamphu - Seen a few wet seasons , been in the tropics for 40 years.

You mean to say the lower northeast, as most of the northern and eastern provinces have enjoyed plentiful - if not too much. 

It just blasted down here in ThonBuri for about 45 minutes. Still trickling a bit

Made a rain gauge in Rayong area. Almost every night get rain, feels and sounds heavy but in reality is 2" in four days.

No rain for a week in Nakhon Sawan 

Basically daily thunderstorms with lots of heavy rain in the Bangkok -area of Silom, Thonburi...

But I am fine- the dear leader promised, there will be no flood, so everything must be okay....even were people are standing in the water, that reaches up to their necks...

It hasn't rained yet today, and I haven't seen any floods even after the rain yesterday.
