September 24, 20188 yr Hi, planning to buy an older car, many of them has plates and usually blue book also, and they are drivable. If tax and insurance, are not up to date, is it possible move the vehicle driving it? In my home country we have "transfer plates" you can get for moving the vehicle, and for that time you get insurance also. In Thailand? Edited September 24, 20188 yr by MuuDaeng Published too early
September 25, 20188 yr In Thailand all you have to do is pay the registration, and to do that Porobor is required.
September 25, 20188 yr Insure the vehicle CTPL which is Thailand's compulsory vehicle insurance, take vehicle to a test centre when it's been checked for roadworthiness, then go to your nearest DLT office and sort any back tax and get your road tax disc.

Thailand has "red plates" which serve the same purpose. But i'm quite sure they don't come with insurance ???? I don't know if you as a private person, can get red plates, you should ask the DLT. Do not be mistaken about newmotors in Thailand and red plates if you want them, with old motors in Thailand all OP needs is CTPl to go on with what he wants to do.

Yes, I know that "Thai red plates" are not for the same, they are provided for use until you get yours when buying new vehicle. Thanks for all for answering, probably know how to proceed if/when will make a deal...

That's one purpose for what they are used, but that's not the only purpose for which they exist. I think in general red plates in Thailand exist for the same purpose as in most other countries, to be able to temporarily drive a car which is missing registration, whatever the reason for this missing registration might be.
