60 day tourist to Non O visa

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m finally hoping to get a Non O visa from my 60 day tourist visa. I am 57 with the required money. What is the final day on my 60 day tourist visa ca I apply to change to a Non O visa.

thank you

You must have at least 15 days (21 days at some offices) remaining on your 60 day entry or the 30 day extension of it to do the application.

There is no reason to wait until near the end of your entry if you have the 800k baht in the bank. It only needs to be in the bank on the date you apply (there is no 60 day requirement).

I was under the impression that you had to show you had the B800k in the bank for 3 months before applying

Also I’m not clear on, if you are granted the NonO visa, is that your over 50 12 month visa or do you need to do something more.

Not to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration that is needed to apply for a one year extension.

Near the end of the 90 day entry from the visa you will apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement. The 800k baht will only need to be in the bank for 60 days on the date apply since it will be your first application.

No maturity requirement for the conversion Tourist => NON O (90 days) but you need proof the money came from abroad.

No, the Non-O needs an extension of stay to give you 1 year, first time you apply for that during last 30 days of the Non-O, only 60 days maturity required in this case, for the further 1 year-extensions it's 90 days then ...

The 12 months comes from an extension of stay that you get before the visa expires. Its a 2 step process, conversion to an 0 visa then an extension of stay.

The general requirements for alteration Tourist-  to Non O visa are here:

... if it pops up in Thai be patient and wait for the 'ENG' - button to show (right side upper corner) which obviously can take some time - or just use translation on it ... never mind, see screenshot attached ...

==> My advice would be to ask your immi-office beforehand which additional paperwork they require if any, in my case copy of rent-contract including pages 1 + 2 of the housebook/tabien ban (which shows address & owner/landlord etc.) as well as copy of owners ID-card and 2 sets of ALL my passport pages.

Btw. it was 2 sets of anything required, meaning 2 forms, 2 photos etc. in my case, took me around 4 hours but then I apparently was the first one to do this at my office in charge ...

Also expect a visit of an IO at your place (by appointment, or maybe not at all - depends on your immi-office) whilst the conversion is processed, you will have to be back at the office some 15 days (21 in my case) after you submitted application, you will get a stamp - not in your passport but on the invoice for the 2k fee - stating that date.

Here are the 'requirements' of the IO's visit at home as it just went down in my case, as mentioned, could be different or maybe no visit at all with your office ...:

2 people (neighbors, Thai nationals) are basically asked if you're a troublemaker, have to state their address and sign the respective form, good idea if they carry their ID.
My landlady had to find a quick replacement for herself because she uses the same address for her own as well as her 2 houses for rent!
No problem with setting that up beforehand so that the 'witnesses' are actually at hand, we sat on the terrace, a five-minute thing each ...

The guy was a bit disappointed when he couldn't find any house-number sign anywhere which he would have liked to have in the background of the pictures he then took from the two neighbors with myself.

That about was it, painless if organized a bit, won't take more than 20 or 30 minutes ... obviously that's already part of the application (my office reports to Chiang Mai) so it was done by appointment 2 days after I had been at the office.

Good luck mate!
