Overstay

Featured Replies

Hello,

First of all I know overstay is bad and i m really sorry about that. I have been here around 6 months and now I can go back to home. I already bought my plane ticket to my home country. But I have some questions. First, Howe much do I have to pay and where? I m not in Bangkok so can I pay in another city or airport? And second question is, can I use domestic flight to go Bangkok?

Thank you so much

best regards

whatever you do don't get stopped by the police before you get to the airport in Bangkok.

you need to make sure no one can see you are over due in your passport until you are at immigration in BKK.

maybe they check domestic, maybe they don't.

not sure about other airports as they would have to be international. some are.

20,000 baht in cash at airport.

If your overstay is 40 days (500 baht per day) or more you will pay the max overstay fine of 20k baht on departure from the country at a airport.

If your overstay is greater than 90 days but less than one year you will banned from entering the country for one year.

You will not normally not have any problems flying on a domestic flight. The airlines and security only look at your passport photo page to confirm your identity.

Hope n prey at the airport it is only i.d. page opened.

Maybe you could staple the departure card over the page with your last entry stamp, so obscuring it from view.

Airline check in for domestic flights could not care one whit about your immigration status.

Domestic flights only need photo ID not a passport.

I heard about a guy who overstayed a few days and he had already the ticket to go home in the following week.

He though he would avoid trouble by going to the immigration to pay the overstay a few days before his flight.

Yes, he paid the overstay, and the immigration officers kept him in a holding cell for a few days until his flight left.

Be careful what you do! Just pay at the airport an hour before you leave the country. Problem solved.

Definitely pay the fine at the airport on departure. However, leave plenty of time (not just an hour) when leaving after a long overstay. The immigration formalities at the airport are more involved when dealing with a long overstay that involves blacklisting.

I assume you are prepared for the one-year ban. Good luck!

Good point.

My "one hour" was meant like: Don't arrive 5 hours early only to be detained for 2 hours...

I don't know what exactly happens at the airport. I guess there must be enough time to do all the paperwork and catch the flight but better not lots of extra spare time.

Maybe someone here has personal experience with this.

Update for anybody want to know what happened,

first , domestic flight was okay. No problem at all they just looked my passport for identification then I arrived to Bangkok. Second, I spent a lot of time at airport because my plane delayed. Anyway I made my check in as soon as possible then walked to security check. After that passport control. I waited like 10 minutes then I told the officer i m in overstay. He said ok and check my passport again then call the supervisor I guess. After that a woman officer came and pick me up and we walked to immigration office. She asked me where am I from and what do I do in here? Then she calculated the fine which is 20k then asked me the money. I gave her. She said sit down and wait. So I did. They talked a lot but I don’t know Thai. Then take a few copy of my passport then they took my pictures 2 times. After that that officer came again and asked me what did I do? Why did I stay in here ? And more but her English was not best so it didn’t take so long. Then she checked all the money I gave in case they are fake or not and this takes some time. After that I signed some papers and bills. Then another officer came and asked me the same questions like what did I do in here ? Why did I stay? Do I come here again? And a few more. Lastly they keep saying I can’t come here again one year and that was all. That immigration and paying took like 35 minutes. And there were 2 people like me. They finished quickly tho. Anyway thank you for all those replies I really appreciate.

best wishes
