Win 10 Keyboard - is it due to insider previews?

I have been having a load of problems when trying to do what I thought would be a simple task - Let me explain the problems and see if anyone can help.

Firstly, I am running the insider preview, which appears stable and is due for release soon, so I hope it isn't due to that.

My PC is set up with English US as the default keyboard layout, no Thai keys or requirements.

My language is set as US which I think I need to get the "@" and the" characters to work correctly on the keyboard.

My location as far as Win 10 SETTINGS goes, is set to UK.

Now, I visit the Windows store and when I select anything, the prices come up in Thai Baht.

I googled this and the suggestion was to revisit the REGION page in the settings menu and select (already selected) UK for the region.

This I then did and went back to the store and hey presto, the prices came up in GB Pounds.

Next I started using some of my apps, Office, Notepad etc. and my keyboard was now rearranged with the UK settings, i.e. the @ and the "  were transposed.

So back to the settings page and redownloaded a keyboard pack for the US and set it to default.

Great I thought, now my keyboard is working correctly again. Well, that is until I used any of my web browsers - Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Canary - all three browsers were entering THAI script!

Back to the settings page and basically just went over and re entered what was already there and made sure they were set to default. This time the Thai script was gone from the browsers, but I could not get the region to work if it was set to the UK and the language was set to US, whenever I use these settings, the keyboard defaults to the UK setting regardless of what I set the language to.

Basically all I ever needed was to have my REGION set to UK and my language and keyboard to US, however, I can live with the language being either US or UK providing the keyboard is always set to the US layout. Is this too much to ask?

Lastly, although not directly related, I think there is some connection with keyboard and languages  that are affected by Google.

I always check the News on a daily basis from my Google Home page, I click on the right top of the screen where it has APPS and then select NEWS.

As soon as the news loads up it is obvious that it has loaded the US Version. On the left hand side of the page is some settings that allow you to change regional settings to wherever you want (Do not choose Thailand as you will have NO NEWS APP, despite places like outer Mongolia and Zimbabwe having the App, Thailand does not????)

Anyway, I select my region as UK English, then hit the UPDATE button which is supposed to save your preferences. Sadly, the next time I open the News App it is back to the US Settings and I have to change and update again.

Really bloody annoying, does anyone know how to fix these stupid niggling issues as they are driving me nuts.

Thanks. Here endeth the rant.

The good news is that I am sure it's easy to solve.

The bad news is that it's only easy to solve for someone with reasonable experience and the computer in front of him.

It would be a long article to write down all the steps which you have to do to get this right.

I suggest if you know someone who is good with computers contact that person.

If you don't know anybody send me a pm, buy me a coffee and a cake and I fix it for you.

Maybe could use teamviewer ?

Yes, it's possible.

But personally I wouldn't let anybody mess with my PC with TeamViewer who I don't know personally.

And for the same reason I won't work on anybody's PC with TeamViewer who I don't know. I don't want to be the person which will be blamed for this and that and whatever...

Sometimes it's still best to do something together with the computer owner in front of that computer...

I get that.. jus that travel can be a pain in the ass at times and that is why i like teamviewer. But I get you you really have to trust the person. But how much different is it from you messing with my computer while I am there.. with messing over teamviewer ?. In both cases I see what your doing.

Only difference is that I have seen you face to face too.

If you want to keep your present setup all you have to do is just search Google for "re-assign/remap keys" and hey presto all done.

PS. never let anyone take remote control of your machine UNLESS you know they

a) Know what they are doing

b) you contacted them (a major help desk-Windows etc)

this sort of thing happens to me once in a while, I use the French Canada layout and the US one moves my @ and accents like é that are on the bottom next to the right shift button

anyways, what i have found to fix this is to add another language, say add french canada, remove the english us

put back english us, remove french canada.

technically, that should sort it out, even if it totally doesn't make sense.

if you registered multiple computers with ONE Microsoft account it will match the language settings on all of them, my gf was under mine and when she added thai it would show up on my computer, i removed it and it removed it on her.. so she just put it back a minute later and that's how i figured that out.

Thank you Gentlemen for your assistance. I have no one I trust with Team Viewer or Remote Desktop etc. so that one is a no no. I am looking at the Google Remap, but in the meantime I found another method that actually scrolls through all of the keyboard and language combinations that are installed on the PC in real time, so you can change it on the fly. If you hold down the WIN key, then press the space bar it steps through all of the different sombinations that are loaded. For whatever reason though it is not finding the Thai language / layout that pops up now an again - This might be due to language packs that are installed with Office 365, as that is the only software I have that uses Thai.

Now I just need to find where Windows stores all these combinations and selete the ones that are irrelevant - They are not ALL stored under settings / Region / Language etc. they are hidden somewhere else as well.

Cheers for all your help, appreciated.

I had that happen in the past, my son had been using my Win logon on his laptop, he had Thai settings and lo and behold, win10 would sync across the network and suddenly my keyboard would be In Thai.

Another thin I have noticed is that even when setting the keyboard / language settings to US QWERTY or similar, there is a difference in the way it behaves, even when the keyboard layout is correct, I,ie the @ and the " are in the right place. Ig I use US English QWERT insread of US English International, I have to press the space bar to display all of the additional symbols like @,', "  etc. really annoying.

Cheers, I am looking at that right now and it is a whole new world of keyboard fiddling! I didn't realize just how much stuff was out there to customize the layout. If I don't get Win to work as is, I will certainly be looking at that little lot - In fact, I can see some really interesting ways to use this remapping feature in a way that I could put to great use in one of my software apps, thanks for that!

I've gone through this situation.  I've replaced the "type cover" for my MS Surface Pro a few times, twice in Thailand, with MS English/Thai keyboards.   It can be a little tricky sorting things with the MS online store, being in Thailand, with "other country" MS product registrations.  I used Lazada for my last "type cover" and ended up buying another Thai/English version, running US Eng, Can Eng, Thai and French, no problems with Win 10 language packs.
