Non-O passport question

Featured Replies

I have 2 valid passports.

I will renew Non-O at Savanaket in the next month or so.

I will obviously leave Thailand with the passport that has my current Non-O in, i will enter Laos with this also.

I'd like to apply for new Non-O with my 2nd passport, which will obviously not have the Laos entry stamp, is this acceptable?

If acceptable is there any issue departing Laos as my 2nd passport will not have an entry stamp in it.

Or should i enter Laos on my 2nd passport, which will not have a Thai exit stamp?

Or ( what i'm hoping ) is i just show them the stamps in relevant passport?

Thanks.

Assume you mean you have 2 valid passports.

You will not be able to leave Thailand on your 2nd passport. You must leave on the passport you used for entry to the country and then enter Laos using it. Laos will not stamp you in unless your passport has a Thai departure stamp in it.

You could try to get the new visa issued in your new 2nd passport at the consulate by showing the passport you left the country on. But I think they will refuse to do it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

1. Anyway to confirm if the consulate will accept the Thai exit stamp on passport one while applying for visa on passport 2? I know some authorities can be difficult when holding 2 passports...

2. Any problem entering Thailand on passport 2 ( 30 day tourist visa ) while i still have a valid Non-O on passport 1?

If the answer to Q2 is 'NO' then would you agree the following is the best option?

I enter Thailand ( currently overseas ) on passport 2, then go to out of Thailand ( Mukdahan - Savanaket ) and into Laos on it and apply for the Non-O visa that way?

Both are valid British passports.

Thanks

1. That is a large if. If they did do it you probably would not be able to use it for entry at the bridge since you will have to depart Laos on the other passport which means Thail immigration would want to see the departure stamp for Laos in the passport used for entry.

2. No problem to do that and then go to Laos to get the new non-o visa in that passport.

I tried to do as the OP want and will not do it again.

I exited Thailand and entered Laos with one passport, get a Non"O" on the other passport.

On my way back to Thailand, I have been stuck for one hour in the immigration office at the bridge, almost missed the minivan to go to the airport and I end up entering Thailand on a 30 days stamp while having a brand new visa in the other passport...

Lesson learned: you cannot swap passport when crossing land border.
