Hi all,

I'm about to finish my one year old contract on October 22.  I'm switching to a new company, however things got delayed due to management being abroad.

Therefore, I heard it might takes 40 days to get everything sorted out, signed and get new papers to get new visa.

When my current contract expires on October 22 (visa exp.date),

1) Can i extend my stay for x days to allow me to prepare to go out? or I really have to plan to get out of the night of Oct. 22?

2) If can extend temporary, how long? CW? $?

3) If not, what are the best "current" options to get a Tourist visa while waiting for new papers? I got several Vientiane TR prior contract (2-3, last 2-3 years plus ED prior contract).  Can i try again there? Perhaps, Cambodia (never been)?

4) Do I need to cancel my work permit and visa on Oct. 22 as well? or it is automatically cancelled when I go out? is the rep from my current company must comes? Who do what?

5) Anything I should be aware?

6) Separate note, Plan C, I saw METV is available, where can it be issued? And what are the requirements/conditions?

As always, thank you very much

Not sure why it would take 40 days to get the paperwork sorted out to apply for a new non-b visa.

1/2. You can only get 7 days to leave the country after you apply for an extension, pay 1900 baht and then have it denied.

3. If you qualify for one you could do a border hop for a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days. You could also get a single entry tourist visa in Vientiane since you state you have only gotten 2 or 3 of them from there. The embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia can be difficult since they sometimes count all visas issued.

4. You should certainly have you work permit canceled. You can do it yourself or your employer can do it with power of attorney from you. You could cancel your extension at immigration using a termination letter from your employer a few days before the date on it and immigration would post date it to that date. Leaving the country does not formally cancel your extension, it only makes it void when you enter the country.

6, A METV can only be applied for in you home country or country of legal residence.
