Birgir Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I hope someone can assist me! My nephew´s tgf had their son last month in Thailand, he was not present but want´s them to come to Iceland to stay with him. His name is not on the birth certificate, his mom would write a letter to invite them to stay with her in Iceland. Would this be enough for her to get a Thai passport for her son, (how long does that take) and visa for them to go to Iceland? (they need a Schengen-visa). Thanks in advance Birgir
mackayae Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 It takes 3 weeks to get a Thai passport. Go to the passport office with the birth certificate, house book, mother's ID card, mother and baby. It takes about 30 minutes. They send the passport to you thru the mail. However, the mother will need a visa to enter Iceland. That might be difficult. You will have to contact the Icelandic Foreign Ministry to get the details.
Mahout Angrit Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 (edited) These days it takes about 3 days to get a passport if collected in person in Bangkok. If you apply (it must be done in person as they photograph you at the centre) at one of the provincial centres dotted around the country then they will send the passport back to you by courier. Return by courier takes about a week and costs B1000 per passport and some extra courier charges. No letters from sponsors required to get a Thai passport. She should be able to get both a passport for herself and her son. Once she has the passport she will need to apply for a Visa to visit Iceland. Icelandic affairs are handled in Bangkok by the Danish Embassy then she will need letters of sponsorship amongst other things, the main point they will be looking for is a reason to return to Thailand for mother and son. // edited to give additional information Edited February 11, 2007 by Mahout Angrit
vinny Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 The mother would have to take her son to one of the passport offices with the required documents.
