Min of Tourism urges officials to be mindful of their actions

BANGKOK, 3 October 2018 (NNT) - The Minister of Tourism and Sports has urged public officials to be mindful of their actions, as the country attempts to regain trust with Chinese tourists.

Tourism and Sports Minister Wirasak Kowsoorad addressed criticism of Thailand’s Visa-On-Arrival process, where officials have been demanding up to 2,000 baht as a “special fee” or “tip” to expedite the process. He said he is preparing to meet with related officials to prevent such actions from occurring.

As for the recent altercation between an airport official and a Chinese tourist at Don Mueang International Airport, he revealed that the airport has suspended the security guard in question and has forwarded a progress report to Chinese officials.

Wirasak implored officials to be mindful of their actions, as Thailand seeks to win back Chinese visitors whose numbers are currently on the decline.

Incredible! Same as TAT regarding spin:

Never mind the corruption, just as long as they are "mindful of their actions."

Next week: Police chief gives a ticking off to policeman who shot foreign tourist dead, saying it was fortunate no locals were hit by ricocheting bullets from his machine gun.

the nth example of the wrong people in the wrong jobs for likely the wrong reasons ;nepotism, cronyism,buying positions, anything other than meritocracy;

he is asking people to have the faintest clue as to what their jobs are;

wonderless why thailand is so grossly inefficient

Plus: The Big Joke has said he's going to recruit 1,000 more staff, so culling a couple a week will hardly be noticed.

Fire them all the way up the the big bosses in charge. They allow this to happen and plenty of them will profit from it.

Then start investigations into their finances, what houses and land they own, etc. Repeat this for every public official who holds some position which can be exploited for gain.

That's how you go after corruption.

forwarded a progress report to Chinese officials

Hope it was submitted in triplicate and accompanied with enough baksheesh. Otherwise, it's going straight to HR and will be taken up strongly at the next performance appraisal.

If such activities continue, they [Farang] just might not come back and spread word while they're at it.

One can only hope.

Assuming they manage to get out alive to return home. So many dangerous obstacles to avoid.

Also those overweight officials. That's where they stash the cash!

Well, basically not a bad idea. Do you also have a solution how the last man standing can handle the job without dying from burnout syndrome on his first day on duty?

Most likely not any issue as no one will remain......:smile:

...but changing nothing...???

...so is that the same as saying....'Don't get caught'...???

Too late now. Unless they completely revamp their immigration system and make major changes I am going to criticize and bash Thailand's immigration and their miserable officers non-stop. I have never been treated with such contempt in my life than I have by Thailand's immigration officers multiple times and did nothing other than follow the letter of the law.  I am going to continue to tell everyone I can to do themselves a favor and avoid Thailand.

This could get even more serious when Prayut gets involved and starts 'urging' them to do their jobs.

My gf is Chinese, just 2 weeka ago had to pay 3000bht for visa on arrival. 2 week visa that is. This is too much! These things backfire eventually though

If that doesn't work they'll get Prawit on the job. He'll scare the shit out of anyone. He did that scaring himself recently.
