Pensioner's plea! Thais have robbed me blind and I can't get home

A Dutch man who claimed to be 70 years old was pictured sitting next to signs saying he had been robbed by Thais.

The signage posted by a Thai on Facebook suggested this pensioner had lost 50,000 baht.

Now he had no ticket back to Holland.

His embassy wouldn't help.

So he was asking passersby to buy his watches - knocked down from 250 baht to 200 baht.

Comments from people online showed little sympathy. Some doubted the veracity of his claims.

Some inquired as to the brand of the watches receiving lots of smiley faces.

He appeared to be at an airport though the location was not mentioned on Hotji Kamnokkok's page.

Reminds me of the story of the guy who was £5 short for his ticket at the airport. One guy he approached and asked 'can you give me £5 so I can fly back home to my country?' gave him £15 and said

  • so at 70 he has no state pension from home ? I find that hard to believe, how about booking a cheap room for 2x months and saving your income for an air ticket instead of making an idiot of yourself

Dutch state pension is 50,000bht/month. If he waits a few weeks, he'll have money again.

Nothing worse than a farang begger in 3rd world. I bet if you offered him a non refundable ticket he would beg for the cash so he could buy it lol

Not gonna get much sympathy from signs like that... THAILAND your people (!) STOLE ALL MY MONEY / THAI PEOPLE STOLE ALL MY MONEY

Not gonna get home by selling 200 baht watches either.  Wonder what the story is.

Does he have a Thai work permit for selling fake watches????

I thought that was one of the occupations reserved exclusively for Thais (and Indians)!   :cheesy:

I'm pretty sure he needs a work permit to sell watches. If immigration/bib see the thai bashing sign he will at least have a free bed for a few weeks

Here's a better one...

acquire a flea ridden, half starved mutt (easy can be found hanging around most soi's), then notice need money to feed and take poor mutt home with me...

Many Brit's are very gullible for that one, he will be coining it in.

Only if you lived in the Netherlands for 50 yrs, for every year from your 15th till your 65 you get 2%. If you lived less longer there it's costs you 2% per year. I know dutch persons that came here when they were 25 and never left, then it's not so much you get.

Sure, that cannot be Thais who robbed this man.

If I was from a developed country, healthy and had skills yet 50,000 was ALL MY MONEY at 70 yrs old then I'd be resentful and bitter (of myself).

I find it difficult to have any sympathy for him looking at his modus operandi

He  needs to think outside the box a bit and start the sign with "Prawit watches for sale rent borrow  and  Im 70 be dead  soon" etc etc

  • Popular Post

As he didn't make a police report about a "robbery" my first thought was, he may ask the bar girl he spent his money on for mercy.

Still too much, considering you can get a Richard Mille for free in these parts.

He should have been Chinese, then I think the PM might

have chipped in with some help.

maybe that is the fast/cheap route he ultimately after?

no work permit--->get arrested--->get departed.

alternatively, his embassy is more likely to get involved, too.

just saying.

Chinese tourists provide a much wider range of "cheerful "news

to the media.
The story of a white old man in Thailand is always the same
but I must admit that this grandpa is at least entrepreneurial

and courageous.

Come in suckers.

There is however, the small risk you may be caught for causing the death of your newly deceased friend.

But how/why does he have multiple  watches?

  • Popular Post

His only assets were 50,000 baht and a watch collection? He has no credit card or bank account in Holland to draw on to pay for his ticket home?

Either his story is complete BS, or he should not have been in Thailand in the first place.

Because he has a lot of time on his hands.

He borrowed them from a dead friend.

He's probably thinking he'll get more dumb farangs by saying what so many farangs apparently believe.
