You can be out of the country for as long as you want to. You just have to sure you have a re-entry permit when you leave.

You only have to be here to apply for your new extension every year.

OK I love you! In a decent, manly way of course!

not directed at me but I quote you anyways because I need all the love I can get. :cheesy:

Anyway, I always thought the 60 day first time seasoning thing was just there to make money for immigration because it is difficult to do and because if you don't have it FOR THE FULL 60 DAYS you just paid a fine, which is the nature of corruption and why everything is so f-ed up here.

It takes a lot of planning on anyone's part (who does not live or work here) to open a Thai bank account as a tourist or some other type of visa and deposit 800,000 baht or some percentage of that amount. I actually opened a SCB bank account in Bangkok during my first two week trip to Thailand on a tourist visa in 2012 with 500 baht and I used a phone number of a girl I met on Soi Cowboy:clap2: to activate the account.:cheesy:  I was able to return to the USA and link this account to BofA using SWIFT.

Two years later as a tourist and now having my own big boy pants Thai cellphone :clap2:I opened an account at Bangkok Bank and also linked that to the USA and had the money sitting in Thailand for a while before I came over that the final time to retire in 2014.

And the girl from Soi Cowboy is Sarah and she is a school teacher now and lives in Ubon Ratchathani and we are still friends.

For the first extension based upon retirement it has been 60 days since 2008 and then 3 months after the first one.

Well here is another silly question Joe: So based on my 2018 income plus SS, I wouldnt even need money in the bank. So do I just bring my SS letter and a letter from my employer to the embassy to get the affidavit? But if I did this tomorrow, I would be applying for the year in 2019, where my income would be unknown....even though when I go back in the summer it would be about the same..

Does that make sense or should I put down the crack pipe?

The US embassy does not ask for any proof of your income since your will signing and swearing the amount is correct in front of a consular officer.

You only have to prove your income on the date you apply for the extension. What you have for this year is enough.

The consulates will accept only the the affidavit if it is equal to or greater than 65k baht. Savannakhet may want proof of some money in any bank (perhaps the standard 20k baht).

So I take what I earned for 2018, divide by 12 and add in my soc sec to get my monthly, which I swear too. So lets say thats 100K baht. Drop 100K in the bank and I am good to go then? But what about when I do the extension in 90 days, is that income still good as I havent yet worked in 2019 (I work in the US in the summer)

Now I need to apply for a SETV extension soon. Should I do that and then head to Savannakhet for the OA the paperwork? Or can I do the OA here in BKK?

You would not be applying for a OA visa anywhere. Just a non-o visa.

You could apply the non immigrant visa at immigration with only the income affidavit being needed if your income is 65k baht or more. No need to show any money in the bank.

Immigration does not expect you to prove your income for next year.

I meant non O, sorry. So what you are saying is, I can get my affidavit (and put some cash in the bank too if necessary) and roll over to Immigration here in BKK later this month, convert myself from SETV to a Non O, then I have to go back in 90 days.? In that time frame, can I get permission to leave, I need to go to Cambo. Then all I have to do next Oct/November is apply to extend?

Should I get an agent like VisaBuddy or whatever?

You can change visa to non immigrant O with more that 15 days remaining on current entry and then extend for one year about 60 days later - so extension time each year would be about January if you are talking about later this month doing the conversion.  Yes you can get a re-entry permit to allow travel/return while waiting.  And any later travel will also require a re-entry permit.

Get the affidavit and apply for the change of visa status to get a the 90 entry from the non immigrant visa. You will have to go back to immigration in about 2 weeks to get the visa and entry stamps done. You will need at least 15 days remaining on your 60 day entry or the 30 day extension of it to do the application.

You would need to get a re-entry permit to keep the 90 day entry valid if you want to leave the country.

Then during the last 45 days of the 90 day entry you can apply for the extension.

No need for an agent.
