Sanook reported that "lightning" police work resulted in the capture of a career criminal stealing from businesses in the Nonthaburi area north of west of Bangkok.

Wichit or "Por", 42, (in the black shirt) was arrested hiding under a bed on the top floor of a depot that distributes solar panels for rooftops.

The owner of the company Sanya, 70 (that's him in the green shirt) had called the Bang Sri Muang district police who responded quickly.

Copper wiring and cable had gone missing causing considerable damage.

Police found a mobile phone and deduced that it belonged to the thief.

A search ensued and the thief was found under a bed on the fifth floor.

He was caught in possession of 8 kilograms of copper wire and 6 kilos of black cable as well as pliers and two knives.

Por said he had lost his job as a plumber and electrician two weeks again and intended to sell the copper for 186 baht a kilo.

Sanya said he had been the victim of theft on two occasions on September 30th and October 3rd.

He said that damage to the tune of more than a million baht had been done to two systems and that 130,000 baht worth of dolls he imported from China had also gone missing.

Police discovered that Por is a drug addict and serial thief wanted for other crimes. He admitted everything.

He said he was cornered by the police and had no alternative but to hide under the bed.

Sanya presented the cops with a basket of goodies in appreciation of their quick response, described a "lightning" in the Sanook headline.

To which the police said they couldn't accept it as it is their job to catch criminals and the gift would be seen as a 'gratuity'.
