Trump and Pump...gasoline prices through the roof!

Featured Replies

This morning I went to fill up the car with E20 at a PTT station in Ubon.

While I rarely do so, I gave a quick look at the price per liter, which is well hidden behind a tiny window on the pump.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw it was almost at 30 baht!!! (29.5)

Not long ago, this was considered high for 95 gasoline.

Meanwhile, Trump is unleashing tweetstorms against Saudi Arabia because oil prices are too high...as if it was the fault of Saudi Arabia!

Let see...

The first emperor destroyed Irak and its oi! exports

The second emperor destroyed Libya and its oil exports

The third and last emperor is threatening to destroy Iran and its oil exports!

Could this have anything to do with the price of oil going up?

Of course there are other factors, but in some (Western) quarters it is becoming a habit to blame others for the consequences of one's inconsiderate own behavior!

We are different.

I always look at the big price display pole when entering the station

And yes, it's not too much fun these times.

I do not engage in Trump threads, not good for my health, sorry.

Do you also blame Trump when you can't get a hard on?

Iraq, Iran and Libya wet their own bed and now have to sleep in it.

Did you forget Maduro? His great social experiment have taken nearly 2 million bbls/day out of the oil market, while the US of A is pumping at record levels thanks to shale oil.

Anyway, expensive oil make people consume less. It is good for the environment and global warming/climate change, so they say.

How exactly did they "wet their own bed" - Petrodollars?

Invade Kuwait, build (or try to build) nuclear weapon, Lockerbie.

Guess you haven't been here so long.

I remember diesel at 13 baht in the early 2000s, going all the way up to 40 in 2008...

E20 came down to 20 in 2016 and has now gone up to 30, on the way to ???

Lots of reasons many countries want oil at 100 $ barrel like before but it's only about 80 $ at the moment so go and use E85. ????

That's one version of history.

Another version is:

- Saddam wanted to get out of the petrodollar and started to sell oil against euros

- Gaddafi wanted to get out of the petrodollar and to create a common African currency, the dinar, backed by gold

- Iran is supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon, with the latter having twice repelled Israel when it was trying to annex South Lebanon and its precious water

- Assad opposed the construction of a gas pipeline coming from Qatar and Saudi Arabia and going to Europe

All this is very well documented and a quick search on internet will confirm it and provide useful information for those who want it.

I wish but I can't!

Anyway, prices are deceptive in this case because you get less bang for the buck with E85 compared with regular gasoline.

In other words, you pay less per liter but you use more liters.

At 100 dollar per barrel, we will not get a tweetstorm, but a tweetnado!

The difference in getting less kilometers per litre is not a great difference per cost per litre is a big saving.
