Complaints can be made at any police station nationwide, under new reform measures

Victims of crime can now lodge their complaints at any police station nationwide, under a regulation amended in line with law enforcement reform.

 

Former Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-General Amnuay Nimmano announced the new rule on Tuesday, a day after he led fellow members of the justice reform committee to police headquarters to push through the new measures.

 

Police who receive complaints are now tasked with forwarding the information to the station with jurisdiction within three days. Previously victims had to file their compliants at the station with jurisdiction over the area where the crime occurred.

 

Another measure pending implementation is the arrangement for pro-bono lawyers to serve suspects at police stations. This measure may see the Lawyers' Council of Thailand dispatch pro-bono lawyers to 150 pilot police stations in big cities, each receiving more than 1,000 cases per year. Stations with more than 2,000 cases a year would have pro-bono lawyers on hand around the clock.

 

Other reform measures include a ban on parading crime suspects at press conferences or media interviews unless revealing their identity is of benefit to the public, and the release and electronic tagging of suspects in less serious crimes.

 

Amnuay made the announcement during Tuesday’s meeting between the justice reform committee, which is led by Council of State secretary-general Atchaporn Jarujinda, and national police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda along with senior police officers at police headquarters in Bangkok.

 

The committee and deputy police chief Pol General Weerachai Songmetta, who represented the police force, also joined the discussion over the action plan and problem-solving guidelines.

The last ban of parading suspects in front of the media wasn't exactly a great success. Will it work this time? Or is the lure of the photograph with the pointing finger too much for the press?

They don't any more iffy - they're quite iffy own their own.

 

Ify complaints <as in, "It's 'iffy' whether we will accept the complaint or not">:

*Rape

*Any crime that may embarrass Koh Tao or the Kingdom

whats the point? cops never do anything unless you are at the correct station chasing them up constantly, or at least greasing the wheels to keep things moving.

elections coming up...

 

the police will never change. they use the law to their own advantage.

 

ive made more complaints than visa runs and ive been here decades. the only certain thing is im lucky to be alive. thats my levwl of respect for the police. not one has ever done there job that ive been dealing with. Its a race thing firstly... No farang or wife of can ever dare complain about anything thai because thais are different, special. I agree but not in the same manner....

Legal firms may send their "shady lawyers" to do pro-bono service instead of being sent to an inactive post.

What happens if police request money to follow up on assault and theft reports?

Or is that still an accepted part of it all.  I.e. User pays system.

 

Secondly,  lawyers are mentioned and I'm curious to know when you use a lawyer do you ask to see the registration papers and confirm legitimacy. I've got a funny paranoid feeling that a lot of lawyers are not the full monty. My visits to them on occasion have got me more suspicious by their lack of quality response to questions. 

 

Where do I go when I have a complaint about the police, i.e. theft?

Can I read this that a rape and theft on one island, can now be reported to police on a neighboring island, or in principle at any police station in the nation...????

This is the same as complaining to a corrupt police about another corrupt police. Stupid!

Same as the ban on police making roadblocks. Was banned by the watch lover and then totally ignored.

In Thai sentence structure it means that the police are no longer iffy. I, for one, believe they are there for me. And you? *_*

Want justice? Bring the proper sized envelope, same as always.
