Cost Of Living And Other Things

Hello all,

I hope this is in the right forum. I'm thinking of moving to Thailand, I stayed on Koh Samui for 3 weeks 14 yrs back I know it's probably changed alot since then, runways, hotels and the like. When I stayed I was in a nice little beach bungalow which was pennies / night to stay in. Never forgot the experience a real paradise.

So now I'm 35 I'm a business graduate (1991). I've always been self employed, my present business has just died, so I'm looking at leaving the UK 'cause it's crap.

I will have approx £30,000. NOT looking at buying a business or anything like that, not for a while anyway. don't want a bar / cafe heard too many horror stories. To be honest I just want a beach and a hammock, a beer and girls as and when really very little else, I've always been fairly frugal.

So where is the best, as in cheapest place to live near a nice beach in Thailand?

I've heard eastern regions are better because the monsoon affects the west.

If you can give me some ideas I will come over on a holiday to have a lok around first before making the jump.

What visa do I need for long term stay as opposed to holiday?

When I do decide to start earning what are the best ways to make a bit of cash? Not too strenuous though.
