You can't get an id card. I am not sure about buying a car on a tourist visa - you'll need to search the forum a bit - look in the motoring section. Infact - Mr Mods - can you move this to the motoring section?

am moving this to the motoring section.

there are ways for non-Thai's to purchase and register cards here, and the boffins in that forum will know best.

Again, you can't get an ID card.

EDIT: you don't need an id card to buy a car in los, some people say they have bought a car on a tourist visa - search the motor forum and you will get the answer.

You can buy anything for money..........my question AGAIN is : I need advice how to register a car........people say I need an ID card to show immigration who also need to stamp some papers , that I have to bring to the car register office.......thats why I need to know what kind of Visa I need to get this ID.......

KID.....you are telling me I dont need an ID....?????? No Im not Burmese...... :o or maybe the real name is not ID but resident card ????? not sure...

Someone out there who can explain the process step by step and what I need to bring....etc.....and can I do that with a tourist visa ??

Thanks

You can buy a car on a non-imm O visa, or a non-imm B.

A 'B' is obtained through working here. An O can be obtained for marriage to a Thai or retirement. Other O's can be picked up through a visit with a purpose, eg. reason for visit: Thai cookery course, study Thai, etc.

A quick search through the forum should tel you what to do. If you look at the expat motors site at the top of the page, they actually give an outline of the paperwork and the process.

Good luck

PS. TO get a Thai ID card you need to fulfill a lot of requirements. Look at the requirements for citizenship and that will tell you. It is very expensive - something like half a million baht - and requires exacting requirements in relation to assimilating into Thai culture. If having an ID card were a stipulation for owning a car then almost no farang would own one.

I think you need a non-immigrate visa to register a car. You cannot register a car with a tourist visa.

I have regged cars and bikes on tourist visa's and even a 30 day visa waiver..

Might just be my local office (Phuket) but never said anything..

Buying a car you need a proof of address or proof of residence paper.. Get this from immigration with either house lease papers, tabien baan, or a Thai DL with your thai address on it (this makes no sense to me.. You need to show immigration a Thai DL issued by transport office to get a paper with that address to take back to transport office !!! sigh)..

With this and copies of passport (rear page, entry stamp, TM7, any visa if you have one) taken to the transport office you can either bring seller with you (he signs one paper) or you can have him sign it away from the office with a second paper which I understand to be like a power of attourney allowing you to handle paper work from there.

You also need his ID card and tabien baan if hes Thai or his passport pages same as yourself (but no residence paper) if hes farang. They then record the cars chassis number and maybe the engine number also and put new name in book.. I think they are supposed to do a roadworthy test also (no please stop laughing) but never have done.
