Unable to solve flooding crisis, Pattaya cuts holes in Beach Road promenade

PATTAYA:--Unable to resolve the city’s long-running flooding problems, Pattaya is now demolishing parts of the Beach Road promenade to let storm runoff drain onto the beach.

Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome on Oct. 2 ordered sanitation and engineering workers to cut another swath through the sidewalk at the Hard Rock Hotel and opposite Soi 2 to ease Beach Road flooding.

Of course, the water drains improperly on to the beach, cutting large trenches into the newly restored shoreline.

The latest orders follow earlier demolitions at soi 7, 9, 10, 12 and 13.

City officials said the sidewalks will be rebuilt once rainy season ends.

Why do Thai's never consulate an engineer to solve problems. They just keep making mistake after mistake. Either to proud to seek real help or to corrupt to care

Ye Gods, are these really the people who's ancestors built Sukothai, maybe if they stoped looking and texting on the phone for a few minutes they may actually come up with a sensible solution.

Of course they will be, and who will get the contract to do it. Then, same same next year, rip up the pavements, let the filthy water pollute the beach, fill in pavement, rebuild the beach......Dig up pavement, pollute the beach...rebuild........Wow! a brilliant cash cow for years to come.

You don't make money if you do it right the first time?

Will tourists have to walk into a busy street now that the new sidewalk has been removed?

So the Thai engineers they consulted with don't count?

What? a Thai  engineer?  ????

All the cigarette butts dropped in the streets will end up on the beach.

btw still haven’t seen any follow up about the London visit to the girl who said she was raped, they did say they would release details by Saturday ie today.

Is it safe to bring my family to the resort, I have heard it's world class?

Then he promised that within seven days all will be revealed

It's in their interest for it not to work, means repeat business, that's Thai logic it seems

Won’t all the used condoms and other flotsam jam up the works? Oh well, more work to charge for.

I think they keep asking the same (theoretical) engineers from KMIT faculty of sand castles who keep coming up with the same solutions.

Winning!

Rhetorical question as you already gave both correct answers !

I am an engineer and know the solution is very simple but will make the people who agreed the work on the beach and beach road look bad.  There is a dolution that would leave the beach  and sand unpoluted and easy to do but Thais will not adk a farang to help even when that help would be willing given for free.
