Overwhelming support for decriminalizing marijuana for medical purpose

An overwhelming number of people have voiced support for decriminalizing the use of kanja (marijuana) for research and development for medical purpose, said Somchai Sawaengkarn, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, on Tuesday, citing result of an opinion survey conducted during October 1-15.

Of the 16,431 people who voiced their opinions on the issue, 16,264 voted in support of the bid to amend the narcotics law to make it legally possible for kanja to be used for medical research in the hope that medicines can be developed from the addictive drug for the treatment of certain diseases.

Somchai said over 290,000 had logged into the NLA’s webpage to take a look at the bill to amend the narcotics law. He added that he and fellow assemblymen would hold another public hearing this month to gauge public opinions about ganja decrimalization for medical purpose.

"...He added that he and fellow assemblymen would hold another public hearing this month to gauge public opinions about ganja decrimalization for medical purpose..."

Wake up and do your job; it isn't like you are busy or anything. You have held hearings. You have conducted surveys. The information is there.

As the headline says

"Overwhelming support for decriminalizing marijuana for medical purpose"

Wake the hell up and vote.

Overwhelming support from the elites for decriminalizing marijuana for financial gain.

Not sure why they have to research something that is already well researched elsewhere.

Just follow Canada's lead. In about 2 hours time, it's legal across the fine country of mine. Cheers!

Wait until Big Laugh’s proposal is finished. In regard of his mindset, I expect the employment of 1.000 ‘dope doctors’ doing road checks on pedestrians to examine their medical records of the last three years, the doctor’s prescription, and the address of the pharmacy of purchase. It will be mandatory for all citizens who failed the purple rain test, to carry these documents all the time. :stoner:

Now all they need to do to not cause too much trouble for the people who use it medically is to stop testing people for using marijuana and only punish possession without Dr orders.

This way people who use it don't have to worry to get extorted and don't have to walk around with a prescription (only when buying and transporting the stuff).

Best thing would be of course if they legalize it totally. I would be quite happy then.

Please please just add Kratom to this.  Thailand own indigenous magic herb that has been helping people for 1000 years.  Was made illegal in 1943 as a way to help the opium industry.

Don't they mean Ganja? & it's been proven many times to be non addictive, Of course it should be fully legalized but never will be as big pharma will lose too much money if everyone can grow their own Cancer cure & painkiller in their back yard....   ????

Never will be legalized?

Time to update your database... Uruguay and Canada, sovereign nations, have already legalized recreational use. Plus nine American states. All of these political entities allow growing your own at home, while also maintaining the medical use structures.

Considering the ravages alcohol bestows upon society, people who want to alter their consciousness should have a better choice. Legalizing for medical reasons is a start but Thailand needs to be a lot more proactive. The U.S. will be next to change its laws (federally), and since it was America who basically made every other country sign on to anti marijuana legislation, the lid is off this now boiling pot (ptp). If Thailand wants to be a leader in S.E. Asia concerning rational thinking on harm reduction, it needs to get moving now.

Because it is rather a huge step to make, don't you think?

Yes, when it is the same old cronies who only move when there is something in it for them.

Will this allow people to grow their own, we will have to wait and see.

South Africa recently legalised growing and smoking in the home.

Buying and selling, possession, is still a crime.

This way it completely blocks out big pharma and keeps citizens quite happy.

The government opposed the move but the constitutional court passed it. It cannot be challenged by any other court so problem solved. ????
