BANGKOK, 17 October 2018 (NNT) - The Independent Committee for Education Reform (ICER) is encouraging communities and parents to help improve safety measures for schoolchildren.

ICER President Jarad Suwanwelaa said a recent ICER committee meeting discussed the big picture of a life-long education scheme, in keeping with the constitution which elaborate education as a life-long activity that goes beyond education at school, requiring related agencies to provide education programs for all groups of people

The committee also discussed the promotion of students' safety and welfare at school, and will be holding public forums to gain more input regarding this matter from the general public in various areas.

ICER Vice President Daranee Utairatanakit said legislation on national education requires educational institutes to provide the support for students' safety and welfare in all educational programs, which play even more importance than the lessons, as students need to feel safe in order to learn effectively.

The committee has referred to school safety studies which categorize safety measures at schools into five areas, including physical accidents, mental and physical violence which includes the bullying at schools and on social media, violence between a teacher and a student, violence from family members, and school-based safety measures such as hygiene and infection controls, and suggested that schools are yet to cooperate with communities and parents to improve those measures.

''  parents to help improve safety measures for schoolchildren ''....... does that mean stopping  young teenagers riding 4 to a motorbike to school .... or will the school Heads do something about it ... or will the police on duty outside the school gates take action?

Obviously not desirable, but lets be practical - how are the kids going to  get to school? Many families do not have transport other than motorbikes, and not one for every person. Certainly around our way no buses and just Songthaews, which run only on main routes and always overloaded during rush hours.
