Trump says not satisfied with Saudi handling of Khashoggi death

ELKO, Nev. (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he is not satisfied with Saudi Arabia's handling of the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, and said questions remain unanswered.

Saudi Arabia said early on Saturday that Khashoggi, a critic of the country's de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, had died in a fight inside its consulate in the Turkish city.

Riyadh provided no evidence to support its account, which marked a reversal of an initial statement that Khashoggi had left the consulate the same day he entered on Oct. 2 to get documents for his upcoming marriage.

Asked during a trip to Nevada if he was satisfied that Saudi officials had been fired over Khashoggi's death, Trump said: "No, I am not satisfied until we find the answer. But it was a big first step, it was a good first step. But I want to get to the answer."

Turkish officials suspect Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, was killed inside the consulate by a team of Saudi agents and his body cut up.

Trump said it was possible that Prince Mohammed had been unaware of the circumstances around the death of Khashoggi, a Saudi national and U.S. resident.

Trump said no one seems to know where the journalist’s body is, adding that no one from his administration has seen video or a transcript of what happened inside the consulate.

While Middle Eastern allies closed ranks around the kingdom, Western reaction to the Saudi narrative varied. Trump had initially said it was credible.

Germany and France on Saturday called Saudi Arabia's explanation of how Khashoggi died incomplete.

????????????....is it me? no... couldn’t be.

surely the “first step” was Saudi Arabia’s outright denial.

which was much like the second , third etc steps, until they finally redecorated and let the Turkish po-lice in.... which was after several laps around the park.

Latest news is that the Saudi killers were listening to music on their headphones as they were sawing off his body parts and while he was still conscious. !

Trump and Pompeo simply want this story to go away  ASAP

Disgraceful behaviour.

That's old news...the latest, right now on Aljazeera, is that the Turks are saying that the body parts were dumped in a forest near Istanbul!

Meanwhile, the hapless Saudis are saying that Khashoggi was killed by a chokehold!

Quite a gap to fill between a chokehold and body parts in a forest!

The Saudis should enroll Stephen King to write a coherent scenario...

Trump is looking more ridiculous by the day. He has absolutely no idea how to handle this one. His typical deflection and fake news narrative is not working this time. His buddy MBS has been outed as a gangster and has embarrassed him, as Trumps constant defense of the House of Saud has emboldened this thug. Thankfully the world now knows who and what MBS is. Egg on the face all around.

Usually a fight does not end in beheading or dismemberment. Where is the body, if it was only a "fight" as the corrupt, dishonest, dangerous and vile Saudis say?

I am glad that Trump still believes in Father Christmas. In a country like Saudi Arabia there is not such thing of the Chief not being made aware of things; unless he himself triggered off "things".

Pathetic statement - not befitting a President of a Micky Mouse republic and certainly not the United States of Kissing Saudi Backsides!

Especially since, according to the latest leak from Turkey, there might have been a phone conversation between MBS and Khashoggi, inside the consulate, right before the latter was killed!
