EXCLUSIVE: Charles McLaughlin, 38, is now completely paralysed after he suffered a stroke whilst backpacking around the world

A paralysed stroke victim stuck in a “hellish” Cambodian hospital has flown home – thanks to you. Charles McLaughlin’s desperate mum Esther begged the Government to lend her £115,000 for an emergency air ambulance but it refused three times.

But the family got Charles home at last thanks to re-mortgaging their home, crowdfunding and donations from Sunday Mirror readers.

Pleased to hear he's now home with his family.

I Live in Cambodia and it should be remembered that the locals have no choice but to make use of “hellish” Cambodian hospitals. Why as Caucasians are our lives always seen to be more valued than the people whose countries we live in or visit?

When I first came here, it was all pretty predictable. Nights out, bars, always somewhere busy. That was the routine. These days it’s different. Quieter, less going out. I still drop in now and then, but it’s not the center of things anymore. The scene itself feels different too.Fewer girls around, or just moved online? May I ask this in the Pattaya forum , because I believe Bangkok may be different Air conditioned bars , i am observing they get less customers, do you believe I'm correct ? I had a farang recently who told me that particular bar failed as it had glass windows and was air conditioned, I was absolutely and what's the word.... gobsmacked! Does it make you consider stepping in perhaps some hesitation ? and opening the glass doors to go in , do you prefer open bars and why ? I didn't notice

I suspect that the point which @marin was making is that you can't blame Thai immigration procedures for the fact that you have to make trips to Bangkok every 5 years for a new passport, as you appeared to imply in your previous post. Instead the blame for this totally unsatisfactory situation lies fairly and squarely with the incompetent idiots in your home country's government who are responsible for inflicting such cumbersomely ridiculous passport renewal procedures on you and your fellow countrymen who live in Thailand - all the more so in the case of those with severe mobility issues.

One thing I have never quite been able to wrap my head around is how Thailand manages to be both incredibly formal and completely informal at the exact same time. On one hand, everything looks like it belongs in an ornate ceremony. Postal addresses are about three paragraphs long. People’s full names can take up half a passport page.
