Jin-Woo Lee, chief executive officer of Rabbit Line Pay launched the innovative payment service on October 30. The soft launch is aimed at facilitating fare payments for BTS passengers through Rabbit Line Pay.

The service is a result of collaboration between Rabbit Line Pay, a mobile payment operator, and Rabbit Card and BTS. Through their smartphones, passengers can register for the service, add the stored value, buy trips, check the outstanding stored value and review their trip history. Passengers can deduct fares from Rabbit Line Pay's e-wallet or from their credit and debit cards with Rabbit Line Pay.

The service includes notifications prior to fare deduction and notifications when trips are bought via Line or when the outstanding stored value is below the fare, to assure transparency and enhance convenience.

As of October 2018, Rabbit Line Pay served 5 million users and the numbers jumped 50 per cent in less than six months.

Amid the rapid growth of users, the number of participating merchants nationwide has grown to more than 50,000. By the end of 2018, the number of merchants is expected to reach 60,000.

“Rabbit Line Pay has offered the service to tie Rabbit Card with Rabbit Line Pay through 20 booths at 15 BTS stations [until November 30] and it has attracted a large number of users. To satisfy the huge demand, the service is now available at the ticketing offices at all BTS stations. We aim to grow the number of tied cards to 500,000 by the end of 2018.” Lee added.

The cooperation not only offers BTS passengers greater convenience but also acts as a catalyst in turning Thailand into a cashless society and driving Thais towards the Thailand 4.0 era. The service will be expanded in future to cover Bangkok Bank’s co-branded card next year.

I already have rabbitcard but there's nowhere (except bts stations) where i can upload cash to it...Tried the MacD this week and they won't do it, also Burgerking not. And to get discount you have to ask them or they won't give it.

This is kind of weird...

It was just in the past year or so that the BTS system STOPPED accepting bank credit cards/debits cards as a payment method for topping up regular BTS Rabbit cash fare cards. Once they made that change, you could only buy monthly trip top-ups with bank cards, but no longer cash value topping up.

And now they're doing this thru a 3rd party vendor.

It kind of makes you wonder if the right hand ever thinks or knows about what the left hand is doing here.

I played around with this a bit this afternoon, with a NOT very good result as a expat.

First off, this isn't a new or separate app, but instead, another service component among many that the LINE people have built into their basic LINE chat app. So there's where the LINE Pay BTS piece is activated from.

First step was to link my BTS Rabbit card to my Line account. That was easy just by entering in my Rabbit card number with LINE.

But then the problems began. As soon as I went to explore the adding a balance to the LINE Pay account, I got the following screen that they apparently are no longer accepting bank debit cards for topups.

Just to doublecheck, I tried using the app's scan your bank card feature with my BKKB debit card just to see if that would work, and it didn't. So debit cards seem to be out.

And then I figured, OK, I'll add my BKK bank account instead of the debit card. But when I entered in my BKK account info, the setup screen seemed to demand a Thai national ID number, and wouldn't accept a passport number as an alternative, so that was a fail also.  Dunno if the other banks' setup process in LINE Pay have the same Thai ID card element as the BKKB one does, as I didn't try the others. But I'm guessing they probably do.

I could have, at that point, decided to try adding a credit card as the topup source in Rabbit Pay. But frankly, I'm not excited about giving my credit card details to a 3rd party Thai bill pay service, so I decided to not go down that road.

Be interested to hear others' experience with this.

I always refill my Rabbit cards at MacDonald and never had problem. Maybe ask for the Manager , take the name and tell him or her you are going to complain at Rabbit call Center and MacDonald Office.

MacDonald is a serious company.

I already have enough issues with macdonalds, i always tell them to give me the discount when i pay with rabbit and they always act like they have never heard that before. Then i turn that payment machine around to show them and they give it.

Last time i went in the staff run away to not come back, i had to wait a minute before one came back...that's how it goes here.

I also complaint to MacD usa one day cause they overcharged me...and another time they wouldn't give me the discount for Rabbit, they said the burgers were in promotion already (pointing at the sign above them) and cannot give more discount...

It is what it is, i don't care for the 20 baht discount but just the idea that they scam me in MacD is what i hate...even after telling them..

Yesterday i complaint to Breadtalk....they went on their knees but i have a video which i better not talk about here......so disgusting...but they got the message cause i sent it to the headquarter.

The whole point of this thread is to inform that one can now top up the Rabbit Card online using the Line app from ones smart phone?

Rabbit Line Pay sucks.

I have many FamilyMart/Big C Mini/Lotus Express near my work and condo.  So I use the Rabbit card for everything and usually during the weekdays I don't even bring cash or atm card.  Less to loss or get stolen.  Rabbit card only was my system.  BTS and food during workweek.  I switched to Rabbit Line Pay and all of the sudden I can't find any vendors taking the QR reader so I can't use the card for purchases anymore.

Also I like seeing my balance when I walk thru the BTS gate.  Now it doesn't tell you balance the balance.  Have to look it up.  No big deal but on a workweek commuting you don't want to dick around with apps.

What's the advantage?  No waiting in line to top up?  I just top up once a month when the queue is short.  I'm switching back.

Linked mine a couple of months ago:

  • Add Rabbit card number on Rabbit Line Pay under BTS.
  • Go to one of the LINE Pay / BTS link kiosks at BTS participating stations for them to activate the link (you even get credited with 3 free trips for doing it), it won't link / work otherwise.

Then it's just a case of keeping LINE Pay in credit.  You don't top up the card itself, the whole idea is to link it to your LINE Pay account so you just keep credit on LINE Pay (which I top up as needed direct from the Kasikorn mobile app under the Mobile banking option).  Each time you take a trip it just debits your LINE Pay credit and you get a LINE message as a receipt.  If you ever lose your card you can go into the Card details on LINE Pay and cancel it.  Then get a replacement and re-link it to the balance.

Brilliant IMO.  Dead easy.
