Did you know...in 1812, in Hartlepool (a town in the north of England), local people captured a monkey. Never having seen one before, they believed it to be a French spy (having never seen a Frenchman either), as England were then at war with France.

They put it on trial, it offered no defence, they convicted it and sentence it to death, and they hanged it. People from Hartlepool are to this day known as 'monkey hangers' - but they don't like it that much.
