Hi, Good afternoon.

My O-A visa and passport will expire on January 2019 and September 2019 respectively.
When I renew my O-A visa, will I get 1 year visa?

If so, how are an immigration officer will stamp 1 year visa on my passport because my passport will expire in around 9 months?
If not, what are the good options?

Thank you and Have a wonderful day.

do you have a non imm 'O'  'A' visa issued in your own country

or an extension of stay for 1 year issued by local immigration office, if that is the case they will only issue a new extension valid until the expiry date of your passport.

Thank you for your reply. Mine is an extension of stay for 1 year issued by local immigration office. Can you advise what is different from O-A visa issued in one own country when the passport will expire in around 9 months?

I prefer 1 full year extension and I do not want to renew my passport earlier so as to avoid paying fine and inconvenience. Any advise.

Basically no difference.

Let's assume your O-A visa would still be valid (which it is not) and you would re-enter Thailand with it, you would also only get a stamp until September.

With your status you can now apply for a new passport at your consulate to be ready before your extension is due in January. You would then get another full year of extension.

With your current passport you get the extension until September and then have to do the extension again (after 8 months).

Up to you to decide what your preferred option is.

I had decided to get a new passport in time and accepting that I loose same duration of validity in the passport (9 years and 4 months instead of 10 years).

Some countries still seem to issue the new passport for a full duration after expiry of the old one. Mine does not.

To apply for OA long stay visa at an embassy or official Thai consulate you must have 18 months of passport validity to apply.

Thank you, guys for your reply.

1) My old passport with O-A extension would expire when I get my new passport. Is there any limitation on duration to transfer old O-A extension to new passport? If so, how many days?

2) How many maximum and minimum days’ requirement for renewal of O-A extension?

3) If I renew my O-A extension (9 months based on my passport validity) with current passport, can I entitle to get remaining O-A extension (3 months) on my new passport when I get one on September 2019?

You are not extending your O-A Visa. That has expired.

You are extending your 'permission to stay' in Thailand.

It is not a Visa and does not allow any entries into Thailand.

You can purchase a single or multi re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay valid if you need to leave and re-enter.

1. Your extension does not expire when you get a new passport.

On receipt of your new passport get the stamps transferred from old to new at Immigration.

2. You can apply to renew your extension up to 30 days prior to renewal date. (45 days at some offices).

3. No.

Immigration cannot extend your permission to stay beyond the expiry date of your passport.

You can either choose to get an extension valid for 9 months, or lose 9 months passport validity.

Thank you for your reply.

1) Can you advise within how many days get the stamps transferred from old to new at the Immigration?

2) You have advised the maximum days’ requirement. How about the minimum days’ requirement?

The is no rule for how soon you need to have the stamps transferred. Best to get it as soon as possible to avoid having to show both passport for anything you need to do or a unplanned trip out of the country,

There is no minimum number of days to do it. It can be done on the last day if you wanted to.

Hi, Good afternoon.

Re: To renew my extension of stay for 1 year (O-A) with my new passport

I have got my new passport.

Which one first, transfer of my original O-A visa and/or stamps from my old passport to my new passport (or) renew my extension of stay for another year, when I renew my extension of stay for one more year?

Which visa or stamps have to transfer?
Do I have to fill up the form for visa/stamps transfer? If so, which form?

Is it the same counter for the visa/stamp transfer and the extension of stay?

Thank you and have a nice day.

The stamp transfer has to be done first.

Immigration will do a stamp with spaces for info about the your visa and old passport. The will transfer the entry stamp the visa that you have been extending, your most recent entry stamp and your current extension of stay.

Some offices may have their own form. You have this one completed. Transfer Stamps To A New Passport

That depends upon the office where you do the extension.

I will have to go The Chaeng Watthana, Bangkok immigration.
For this office?
The form for the transfer stamps to a new passport you provided still the same?

The form is from the immigration website and is addressed to immigration division one so it should be accepted.

I think they have different desks at CW.
