Democrats flip Arizona US Senate seat with Sinema victory

By Eric Bradner, CNN

(CNN)Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema will win Arizona's US Senate race, defeating Republican Rep. Martha McSally and flipping a seat that had been in GOP hands for 24 years.

McSally conceded the hard-fought race on Monday night -- six days after the election -- as county-by-county tallies of mailed-in ballots continued to increase Sinema's lead.

"I just called Kyrsten Sinema and congratulated her on becoming Arizona's first female senator after a hard-fought battle. I wish her all success as she represents Arizona in the Senate," McSally said in a video posted on Twitter Monday night.

McSally just rolled over and let the leftists steal another election.

"We are not crazy here."

Her words were prophetic...with regards to the electorate.

She, on the other hand, meh.

Polls closed on Nov. 6th and McSally was declared winner.  Suddenly, more votes are "found."  The Republican Governor won Maricopa County by 325,000 votes. Sinema now winning Maricopa by 32,000 votes. Almost 350,000 vote swing to Dem Senator.  But hey, lots of people vote for a conservative governor and then a socialist senator, right?

There is no left in American politics :Bernie Sanders is in the middle, most of the Democratic Party-being firmly committed to preserve the totalitarian power of the corporate sector - is on the right, and the Republican Party is on the far-right /fascist wing of the political spectrum. Only intelligentsia has 'leftists' :Chomsky (who called the Republican Party of today the most dangerous organization in human history), Michael Hudson, Richard Wolff, Frederic Jameson to name just a few :all of them way beyond the intellectual range of the supreme clown at the top of American politics.

For some bizarre reason, Trump was strangely reticent about throwing his weight behind McSally when he was cherry-picking the close-call states in which to roll out his dog and pony show. Mind you, he always says he can pick the losers easily. He's got a whole trailer full of ex- White House staffers, aids and hangers on as testament to that.

Seems like McSally has made a rational and heartfelt concession...Trump will probably excoriate her on Twitter, once he wakes up.

By whom?  Who would be stupid enough to declare a winner on either side with tens of thousands of mail-in votes still to be counted?

As of 24 hours after election night, there were still 600,000 ballots left to be counted.  They weren't mysteriously "found".  Tucson.com:

"More to the point, she has been outpolling Republican Martha McSally in Maricopa and Pima counties, the counties with the most uncounted ballots."

Lots of people voted who've never voted before.  Did you happen to see the turnout numbers on election night?  Arizona's early voter turnout surpasses total ballots cast in 2014 midterms:

"PHOENIX — More Arizonans have cast early ballots for Tuesday’s general election than all the ballots cast in the midterms four years ago.

New figures from the Secretary of State’s Office on Monday — the day before the election — showed that 1,586,783 early ballots had been turned in. By contrast, in the entire 2014 midterm elections, 1,537,671 people voted, whether early or at the polls."

Be gentle with the facts and the truth there attrayant lest poor johnnynmonic's hair catches fire.

Hope she's able to shake all the octagenarians to life and stop the Senate from being an old folks rest home.

He's probably out golfing. That whole thing about him dishonoring the fallen WW1 Americans in France probably made him hungry for a burger and hitting one of his golfing resorts, thereby making sure tax payers money end up in his pocket.:bah:

It feels rather good to hear words which make sense from politicians.

Perhaps fair reasoning and logical thinking prevails after all storms we have seen over the past couple of years.

I've worked as a vote counter (not in the US!) and a lot of votes get counted in the days after the polls close. Such as mailed votes. In a close race they matter.

Sounds like improper counting in the first place.

Poor Donald the losing continues we reject you

John McCain's Senate seat comes open in Jan.  I'm pretty sure Gov. Ducey will appoint McSally for this.

Seriously? She has just lost an election to the senate, so she can be appointed anyway?

Doesn't the popular vote count for anything?

This is normal practise when a sitting Senator dies, or resigns,  the Governor appoints a replacement for the remainder of his/her term.

After the term is up, then you get to vote

It depends on the state so I don't know if 'normal" applies.

But she was popular with the Republican demographic that tends to stand slightly apart from DJT's herd of clueless, red-capped sycophants.

Next thing you know, the Arizona Republican Party will be asking the Maricopa County election officials for any records documenting contact between the county and.....George Soros.

Just kidding...

No. actually not kidding.

"Trumpism" (HATE / DUVISIVENESS/ CORRUPTION) your choice ?!

She won because the democrats made a huge door to door push getting people to vote . They outworked the opposition and she brought in the student vote from ASU.

I don’t care for her political views , however, she  is a decent individual. She began as a public defender in Maricopa county .  I served with her on a human trafficking panel once and found her rather pleasant.

Plus, she out spent her opponent about 3 to 1 in her campaign.  I think her push to get the student vote from ASU is what put her over the top.  Universities tend to vote Democrat.

You know, it's possible to look this stuff up.  But I guess that's a bad idea if you need a fake narrative to console yourself:

Candidate Raised Spent Cash on Hand Last Report
Kyrsten Sinema (D) $18,929,335 $19,891,427 $1,301,542 10/17/2018
Martha McSally (R) $16,081,608 $13,557,950 $2,523,657 10/17/2018
