I’m sure this question has been asked before but I recently changed schools. Can someone tell me if I need to turn in my work permit and apply for a new one for my new school? I thought I saw this somewhere but I might be wrong about the content but I thought I read somewhere that now I can use my old work permit and transfer it for my new school. Again, I think I’m mistaken on this but I just wanted to ask anyway.

Thanks in advance

If you are a non-o visa entry or extension of stay based upon marriage to or a parent of a Thai that means you don't need to worry about immigration issues when changing jobs.

Since you have a existing work permit prior to the rules being changed I am certain you will have to apply for a new work permit. I suggest you check with the Department of Employment office where you located to confirm what is needed

Non immigrant “O”

Do you do 90 day reports or leave and return every 90 days?

In any case you don't need Imm' input. Don't liston to anyone who tells you they have to cancel your visa or extension.

You only need to deal with the Labour Dept' in your new area.

Thanks for your response. I forgot that my visa is not connected with issues about employment here. I’ll check with the Dep of Labor here.

Thanks for the response. I was doing 90 leave and returns as the town I parked in was quite far from the border crossing in Nakhon Phanom (funny thing was the town I worked in is right on the banks of the Mekong River bordering Laos but I had to drive about 90 kilometers to go across the border) so instead of taking off from work, I would do my 90 days across the border on the weekend. But even though now I’m in Sakhon Nakon City where there’s an immigration office, I’ll continue going across the border as it’s become a sort of mini trip for me.

I’ll check with the immigration department about my work permit.

Not true if the extension is dependent on the school. In that case, the name of the school will be written in your passport.

Not in the OP's case since his extension is not for working or teaching. He has either an extension or non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai.

Immigration will probably and wrongly tell you you must have a B visa.

You don't need any contact with them in any way. I worked for years on multi O visas doing 90 days out/in and changed job a few times. Never went near the local Imm' office for years.

The only thing you should do is get the new school to deal with the labour office to issue you your new WP. Don't be surprised if the old school say they have to cancel your 'visa' they can't because it's yours and stays valid til expiry.

Cancel your WP and get a new one. Keep photo copies of the old WP to show the new labour office.

Only if it's an extension of stay.

A non O multi based on being married can't and won't be cancelled because it's nothing to do with the school even if the school has its name in the WP.

The OP has a visa not an extension, big difference.
