These Crown Princes have a habit of turning into tyrants when they get hold of the reins of power.

Not really true in the case of Saudi Arabia. Up until now the king was first among equals but not the absolute ruler, But MbS is a different case altogether. He's been a psychopath from his youth. Here's a link to a profile of him by Dexter Filkins in the New Yorker

Both the White House and the State Department declined to comment.

Not at all. The pussy-grabber-in-chief has been very vocal how he wants to protect the Saudis because of the money riding on the weapons sales.

Trump's loyalty to the Saudi Crown Prince might be tested in the near term.

Multiple sources tell CNN that a much-anticipated United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities in Yemen and for Saudi Arabia to allow humanitarian aid to reach millions of starving people was "stalled" this week after the resolution's sponsor, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, met face-to-face with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Two sources said the crown prince "threw a fit" about the resolution. Two other sources with knowledge of the discussion didn't go so far as to describe the crown prince as angry, though they didn't deny he was annoyed.

Will the US block any such resolution in the Security Council to show his support for the Crown Prince?

As US Ambassador to the UN Haley will be leaving her position next January, she might be very conflicted if Trump orders her to veto such a resolution. While Trump easily and frequently dismisses US intelligence high confidence findings, Haley may differ and decide to put her own future ahead of Trump.

While the CIA reportedly linked members of the hit squad directly to the prince with "high confidence" that the order to kill Jamal Khashoggi came from the highest level,

https://www.dw.com/en/cia-thinks-saudi-prince-ordered-khashoggi-killing-reports/a-46336728

President Donald Trump called the CIA assessment blaming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi "very premature."

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/18/trump-calls-cia-assessment-of-khashoggi-murder-premature-but-possible.html

While Trump declined to listen to Turkey's recording of Khashoggi's murder but did acknowledge the recording's veracity and CIA's characterization of the recording: "It's a suffering tape, it's a terrible tape" "It was very violent, very vicious and terrible."

Maybe when both Congress (Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said he did not believe the Crown Prince's denials) and the CIA thoroughly box Trump in from a self and family protecting denial, maybe Trump's sense of political omnipotence will weaken enough to side with Americans' revulsion of Khashoggi's murder.
